Hello fellow mamas,
I just found out we are having twins (2 strong little heartbeats!) and even though I felt it and wanted it, now my DH and I are thinking, "OMG! Now what?!?!" We live in El Sobrante, CA which is sort of part of the East Bay and Contra Costa County and am looking for resources and advice. I am currently 8 weeks along and want to prepare myself for the pregnancy, labor and delivery options (I would rather not have a C-section,) and get hooked up with local twins groups for support.
Any and all advice is appreciated :) Thanks in advance!

Happy, Hungry, and Tired Mommy,
A.

Hi A.:
Congrats on your twin pregnancy! Your nearest local twins group is Twins by the Bay http://www.twinsbythebay.org - they have both daytime and evening support groups for new and expectant parents as well as email forums so there's plenty of places for you to ask all those questions and connect up with other expectant parents as well as more 'seasoned' ones :-). Meanwhile, keep drinking lots of water and have plenty of healthy snacks on hand (I used to keep a bag of potatoes in my desk drawer at work and would microwave one and top with a drizzle of salad dressing when I needed something a bit more substantial than fruit and crackers!) Plenty of moms deliver their twins vaginally and full term (speaking from experience - mine were induced at 41 weeks and my OB delivered them vaginally even though baby B was breech)
Good luck!

Join the multiples club even if you are not a "club" person. Sleep now, NEVER turn down help, if you can afford it hire a sleep trainer/night nurse, NEVER turn down help, did I already say that  ?
I had a singlet then naturally conceived twins and it was a total OMG and I cried for 2 months because I just couldn't imagine how in the world I could have two infants after having one that seemed to cry for the first year of her life.
Well, I took care of myself, ate fairly healthy food slept when I was tired and ended up having a 2 hour 20 minute labor and delivered (vaginally)a healthy 5.14 oz girl and a 6.11oz boy at Alta Bates at 37 ½ weeks.
The first year was tough no doubt about it, we couldn’t afford a night nanny and I had to go back to work after 3 months but family and friends helped when they could and it is truly amazing what we CAN handle and do. The Marin Multiples Club was a life saver for me and I am NOT a “club” person but who better than another parent of twins to actually empathize with the exhaustion, help teach you how to nurse two babies, get along with your spouse when you are too tired to be rational, they brought meals by and truly were amazing.
My twins just turned 6 and every day I thank God that he gave me twins, they have each other, they couldn’t be more different or more fabulous and they are completely worth every exhausted tear I shed.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

Good news for you! First off, I have twins and guess what? No c-section for me. I originally thought the same thing as you, twins = c-section. So, you won't know until you get closer to your due date. Congratulations by the way~! Twins may be double the trouble but they are also double the love and I'll take that any day! I know there is a twins club in northern contra costa county....Contra Costa moms of multiples. You can look them up. My twins are now 8 and I've been involved with Twin Valley Mother of multiples which is mostly in the dublin/danville/pleasanton/livermore area. Great support is definitely out there!
Best of luck to you and your family!

Congratulations!!!

My best advice is take very good care of yourself and the two little ones in regards to stress, emotional state, and diet. These 3 aspects can really effect your pregnancy, delivery, and your little one's lives (for the rest of their lives) in a really great way. It is amazing how empowered we can feel, as mothers, when we realize that is isn't about focusing on all the things that can go wrong, or that we should be worried about, but rather the positive impact we can have on our unborn (and born) children. By addressing these 3 areas (diet, stress, emotional state) you can work towards having a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Have a healthy and happy nine months!
