Peanut butter takes gum out of hair but I don't know if it would work the same on putty. Good luck!
My daughter got a piece of putty about the size of a quarter from school. She has been attatched to it for the past few days, pulling it apart and making it into a ball, really just enjoying it. She has cerebral palsy and this was real good fine motor skills. Well, we wake up this morning and she has it stuck in her hair. And clost to her scalp. She must have taken it to bed with her and fallen asleep on it. Does anyone know any tricks for this? We have managed to avoid anything like this so far and I would rather not cut her hair that short. If anyone has used any sort of remedy for gum or anything let me know

My mom would PEANUT BUTTER in my hair for gum. I had the longest hair and if I got gum in it, for some unknown reason, peanut butter got it out.
I have also heard that if you put ICE on it, it would help it come out.
I think I would try the peanut butter first. It would work on me a whole lot better!!
Good Luck!
Im a hair stylist and I agree veg oil or baby oil... let sit for 30 min rinse with cool water
Try Infusium 23 Leave-in Conditioner. It's worked on silly putty and gum in our house! Good luck! Happy holidays!

Vegetable oil works great for chewing gum - I've never used it for putty, but it should work. Work a little at a time in with your fingers, let it sit for 20 minutes, and slowly comb it out.
One thing that worked for my daughter and gum was to freeze the gum with a couple of ice cubes, it made it brittle and you could break it off. That may work with your putty as well. Good luck1
J....peanut butter works on gum...so maybe? Not sure maybe call a hair stylist they always seem to know tricks.
Good luck

I seem to remember that my mom used to use Ice and Peanutbutter when we got gum in our hair. I'm not sure what she did with it but when we were kids thats what I remember her using. I know the ice made the gum hard and crumbly... and its a long process...but I have no idea what the peanut butters purpose was. Sorry I'm not much help.
I've used peanut butter to get gum out of my daughters hair. Good Luck!
Hi J.,
For gum I have used peanut butter that seemed to work pretty well. I'm not sure how well it would work for putty though.
I hope this helps:)

de-solv-it works wonders!its 100% organic citrus solution my kids threw my jacket in the wash with gum in the pocket. it was washed and dried but the de-solv-it took it out. also removes sticky, oily, waxy, gooey messes.
Peanut butter takes gum out of hair, but I am not sure about putty. Maybe worth a shot though. Good luck.
Hi peanut butter should work. I know it sounds weird but it helps to get bubble gum out of hair, I am sure it would get the putty out too, from M..
Hi J.,
I think I read somewhere that peanut butter will help get gum out of hair. Good luck, an God bless.

Hopefully, you've gotten it out by now! But if not...
If you're talking about either Silly Putty or the glue/borax-solution "homemade putty," you can try: olive or vegetable oil, Avon Skin-So-Soft (bath oil), baby oil, Pam cooking spray, hand sanitizer (such as Purell or GermX), rubbing alcohol, or non-acetate nail polish remover (for most of these, including the Pam spray, you'll need to shield your child's face while applying).
WD-40 will get it out, too, but it's not a good idea to inhale the fumes, so it's not recommended for hair. Plus, it's hard to get the odor of the WD-40 out afterward.
You can also try using a LOT of conditioner, while pulling/combing the putty carefully out of her hair, but this method takes longer.

Rub Mayonaise in it to loosen it then shampoo.Good luck
Do you mean "silly putty"? I've heard that rubbing alcohol helps dissolve it. ...Hope this helps!
For gum, I seem to remember my grandma using vinegar or butter. Looks like you are getting lots of suggestions.
peanut butter works for gum, not sure about putty. have also heard that cooking oil works.
I watched a show on the cooking channel - they tried the ice, beanut butter, lotion, veg. oil, etc. Of all the trick they tried to get the gum out the veg. oil worked the best. I'd start with that before the others. Good luck!
skin so soft oil by avon or wd-40 will break it down and remove it. Also - you can use sss on things like the gummy part of a sticker on glass or a mirror - it breaks it down so it can be removed. Good luck!
Peanut butter?? Works with gum! Worth a try...
