OB Wont Schedual Until 10W

I think 8-10weeks is fairly normal for first appointment now. It is hard to wait. I hope all goes well for you.

In my experience, that's totally normal. There's really no point to an earlier appointment. At this point, you're either pregnant or not, and will either stay pregnant or not. I think I was 12 weeks with my 3rd.

My OB didn't want to schedule me until 8 weeks...so I'd say 10 is not too far off. I was anxious as I'm sure you were...Probably also becuase before 10 weeks, you may not hear the heartbeat with a regular fetal dopplar and he/she may not have a transvaginal u/s machine on site? That would be my guess.

My midwife didn't really see anyone until 10-12 weeks. I think you are right; the rate of miscarried pregnancies is rather high... and there really isn't much the doctors can do early on (at least, from my experience) other than perform endless ultrasounds. I incurred a significant amount of debt with my miscarried pregnancy immediately before I got pregnant with my son. I would never do an exam before 10 weeks again.

It can be difficult to spot a fetus before 8 weeks, esspecially if your dates are off, which is quite common. This leads to all kinds of panic and drama. Then stat ultra sounds need to be ordered to use hospital grade equipment, or you have to wait an agonizing 2 weeks to do another ultrasound. Then of course there is that week 8 and 9 hurdle which are common for miscarriage. imagine you see the yolk sac and fetal pole at your 8 week only for baby to die the next day. They just want to get past all that.

I was able to schedule mine by 7 weeks because of a history of miscarriage. And often was sent for a stat ultra sound in the hospital because they could not find the baby. Sometimes baby was there, sometimes not.

I think it helps them avoid a lot of drama for them and for you. They want to get past that 8/9 week hurdle and account for wrong dates with a week of cushion.
Twice, they have not been able to locate the fetus for me. Once I did have a viable pregnancy and once i did not. this happens when you do ultra sound on the early side. With 6 pregnancies and two children under my belt, trust me, I know about the waiting game. It last an eternity doesn't it?

Some say 8 some say 10 just depends on the dr. I think much earlyer the baby is way too small to see with the ultrasound.

My ob wouldn't see me until I was almost 12 weeks. I had a nurse visit prior to that, but no ob visit. That is very standard. (I was high risk also.)

Normal. Never went before that. Rule of thumb was always after you missed two periods.

Sounds about right. When I was pregnant with my first, I called for an appt as soon as I found out, which was really early. They called me in prenatal vitamins and then made an appt for 10 weeks. With my second pregnancy, I just went to Walgreens and bought my own prenatal vitamins and then made an appt somewhere around the 10th or 11th week. I was pretty fortunate that I knew pretty early when I was pregnant so I had an idea of how far along I was. No worries, your doctor is doing a pretty routine thing.

With my first I was seen around 6 weeks but then after it changed when they see us pregos till week 10.I asked why was told that there isn't anything that can be done to prevent miscarriage,
You are pregnant with you 4th so you know the do's & don't of pregnancy.Did they give you a prenantal vitamin prescription,go get them & take them daily eat a well balanced diet,stay hydrated & rest
added inresponse to Jennifer T,Confirmation blood test then a call from the OBs office followed with a script for prenantal vitamins then scheduling an appt. at that time I was able to get full panel of labs before first appt. & at any time I had the smallest amount of bleeding or cramp I would have a sono before the 10 weeks even further in pregnancy.All my babies fetal heart tones were detected before 10 weeks of pregnany all of mine were right on the date I knew I had conceived.I had no problem or was ever refused a sono early in pregnancy

The only thing they can do until 10-12 weeks is to tell you that you're pregnant. Not much else. So I can understand why they wouldn't add to their patient load until the person can do anything. The only way you can even do an ultrasound until 15-16 weeks is vaginally and that's to see if the fetus is still alive. So there's just not much use to go before that time frame. I imagine that the insurance won't pay for it either until a later date.

Don't most charges for the OB doc go at a certain rate? Like $XXXX.00 for the office visits and delivery of your child. If you use more than that alloted amount that your fee is buying it would be a regular office visit and extra.

Yeah, after I had a quick pee test at the doctors to confirm my pregnancy, they didn't want to see me until I was 11 weeks. There's just nothing they can do before then. So eat healthy, take your vitamins, and get good rest... and hopefully week 10 week come soon!

my doctor said they dont like to schedule first appointments until you are between 8& 10 weeks, so i guess its pretty standard.. by y estimate i wouldve been almost 9 weeks the day of my appt. .. turned out i was 12weeks.. i wouldnt think too much of it

Unacceptable, and there's plenty they can see/do before then... they can see via u/s if the embryo is implanted in the uterus, check blood for any hcg/progesterone issues(progesterone suppositories enabled me to carry 2 of my 3 children, I lost 3, 10 weeks would have been far too late). Id suggest finding a new OB, but that's just me.

It's pretty standard. I didn't see my ob until I was 13 weeks. The earliest they see people is 10 weeks.

I went in at 8 weeks with my first and I remember that agonizing wait! You know what to do- eat healthy, get lots of rest, drink lots of water.
With my second, I was still breastfeeding my first and hadn't had a period in several months but only suspected I was pregnant when I started throwing up! So I got right in and was only 6 weeks or so.

8 to 10 weeks sounds about right.

thats normal. with my daughter my first appt was at 10 1/2 weeks. some will do it earlier at 6 or 8 but its most common at 10 weeks so you can see/hear the heart beat.

This was the rule with my first 2 pregnancies. With my third, I had no idea what the dates were (got pregnant as soon as the IUD was removed but before my period came back) so they did blood work and a sono. The sono at 6 weeks revealed no heartbeat so it was determined I had a miscarriage. When I got pregnant a few months later I was such a basket case that they did see me much sooner, like around 8 weeks. You can have the blood work to confirm it earlier, but most likely they don't like to see you before 10 weeks unless there is a good reason. I have been told that there is little they can do to help you before 10 weeks, so that is why they don't want to see you.
