OB Contracts?

Hello everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me with a question I have regarding my OB/GYN office. I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant with my first and am not entirely thrilled with my doctor. I've already signed what they call an "OB Contract" telling me how much I'll owe for my prenatal care and delivery but I think I want to switch doctors. Does anyone know if these "OB Contracts" are going to prevent me from finding a doctor I like?

What can I do next?

I don't really know. Is there another doctor at the same office you'd like to try switching to? That may make things very simple. But I think the best thing for you to do is to call the office and ask. Maybe it's lying, but I usually pretend like I'm a potential patient and phrase it so it doesn't make anyone feel like I hate them. You could say, "Hi, I'm looking for an obstetrician, and I've heard about OB contracts. Do you require one of those? And what does that mean? If I'm not happy with my doctor, can I switch to another doctor in the office? Can I switch to a different office, or would I be stuck?" You can get your questions answered without earning yourself a reputation of being dissatisfied and picky (if they would even remember that you complained).
But even if they do know who you are, they're probably flexible. They know that sometimes people just don't "click." With my first baby, we got whichever doctor in the office had an appointment opening. They said they hoped we'd meet all the doctors before delivery, because whoever was at the hospital that day would deliver us. I didn't LOVE that arrangement, but it was fine, until I met one doctor that I HATED. I have fibromyalgia, and when I asked him about it, he immediately treated me like it was all in my head and I was a mental case. So I asked not to see him again and they accommodated me. I was terrified he'd be the doctor on call the day I delivered, but I lucked out.
Good luck!

Congrats to you on your pregnancy!

The OB contract is in regards to your payment arrangements or amount due(if any) made w/your OB provider. It does not bind you to the OB provider. If you are unhappy w/your care, you have the right to go elsewhere. Hope you find someone who give you the proper care you deserve.

Blessings to you,
L.

Congratulations!!!

I have the same experience as Leslie. It is a contract to let you know more for budget sake, and not for legally binding sake. You may have some incurred bills from blood work or something that you are still liable for, but you can switch at any time. Congratulations again and good luck. Being a mom is the BEST thing ever.

Hi and congrats! My understanding is that it is just about payment of services provided during pregnancy. Is there another doctor in the same office that you like? It might be easier to stay at the same office with a different doctor. If not they cannot make you stay with someone you don't like. I really loved the doctors I saw at the Women's Clinic...Dr. Davis, Dr. Hodges (both) and Dr. West(he delivered my second, but I don't if he is in the same office.) I hope you find someone you like!
