my husband and I are thinking about starting another form of Birth control..We don't want to use the Pill, or anything that would be abortive. I have heard of the Nuva Ring, and wonder if any of you have used it and if you could give me any info on it or any other form that has worked for you. Thanks:o)

What can I do next?

Hi A.! I just recently started the nuva ring and haven't had any troubles. My boyfriend says he can feel it sometimes and we will take it out then rinse and put it back. Before nuva ring I had the depo shot for 2 1/2 years after my son was born. I absolutely loved that. Though some women complain of weight gain and mood swings it worked perfectly for me. One shot every 3 months was what I liked best because I have a horrible memory which is why the pill or patch would never work for me. Hope you find the right one that works for you!

I considered the Nuva ring after my baby was born, but I am unable to use methods that have a higher hormone level. After talking with my OB I decided on the Mirena IUD. I didn't like the idea of a regular non-hormone IUD (not sure why, just gut feeling) but Mirena has a VERY low level non-estrogen hormone that prevents ovulation, as well as a very small plastic IUD. So far I am very happy with it. There was a lot of heavy spotting for the first 2 months but at 3 months it has stopped. Not a bad price to pay for 5 years of protection. I have also not noticed any bad side effects of the hormones. I say "bad" because I have been MUCH more sexually responsive since being on Mirena wich is a good thing. I'm not sure if it's the birth control itself, or the freedom of no condoms and no worries making me more relaxed about it.

HI A.,
I used the ring after the bith of my twins, due to the fact that I could not remember to take my pill everyday. I personally didn't really like it. I am pretty sensitive down there and it seemed to irritate me. The one week with out it stuff would start feeling normal and then I'd have to put it back in.
I moved onto the patch and it was ok. The sides of the patch would roll up a little and the glue stuff would stay on the skin and leave a ugly fuzz covered line and the kids kept trying to pick off mommys "band-aid" LOL!
We finally decided, since I had dealt with birth control our entire relationship and marriage, he would take over. We had another baby and since then have used good old condoms. Inconvenient sometimes, but because I want more kids, I don't want him to go the surgical route just yet.
How is it that they have yet to invent a man pill!!?!?? LOL

I used it before my oldest child and it was fine! The only complaint I had was from my husband that he could feel it sometimes (ouch). Sometimes if that happened we would take it out, then rinse it off and put it back in afterward.

I have read the the iud is abortive but what about the iuc? I've heard there's a difference but not exactly sure. I have the mirena and had it between kids too and absolutely love it! No periods, no mood swings, no worries!

Since you mentioned not wanting to use the pill (not sure what your reasons are), I wanted to make sure you know that Nuva Ring is a hormonal method of birth control. It's more convenient for some because you insert it and leave it for 3 weeks, so you don't have to remember to take the pill daily; however, it is still a hormonal method, as opposed to a barrier method like diaphragm or condom. The patch is also a hormnonal method, though used weekly. For more info on more kinds of birth control available, how they work, side effects, etc, you can go to http://www.plannedparenthood.org/utah/birth-control.htm .
Best wishes!

I have a paragaurd IUD. The only choice for me, since the only form of bc (other than condoms) without hormones. I have had it for 2 years, and my husband and i love it! beside heavy bleeding for the 1st 2 months, it has given me not one problem to speak of.

I was on it before I got pregnant with my son. Then after my son went on the 5year IUD - hated that. Then went back onto the Nuva Ring. I personally like it a lot better than any other birth control that I have tried. It's definately easier to remember two dates rather than everday at a certain time and such. No complaints here.
