Nuk Trouble

My daughter is 5 months old but she still uses the 0-3month old nuks and will not take the next size up. She likes to gum everything and does it to the back of her nuk. My mother seems to think that she is going to get it stuck in her mouth. Should I just stop giving her one or should I just leave it alone.

What can I do next?

My 2 boys both used the infant size until they were 3 years old since they too refused the larger size and shape. It was never a problem. The problem was getting them to stop using their pacifier since they loved them SO MUCH!

My daughter used the 0-3 month size until she gave up the paci at 2 1/2 years old. I don't see an issue with using the smaller ones.

Leave it alone. I have 3 girls my oldest daughter, who will be 6 Thursday, took a nuk "binkie" until she was almost 2. It is just her teething. She will probably bite on EVERYTHING. I never had a problem with my daughter and the nuk binkies except when she got older she kept bitting a hole in it. You should only take it if she does start to put the whole thing in her mouth where she might start to choke. My daughter and I used to actually play games like that with her binkie, she would bite the back of it if she put it in my mouth.
Good luck and as you know, I am sure, the best advice can come from mom but when you are a mother, sometimes you have to let your gut feeling be the deciding factor, and not mom.

Well, that which is not available will be done without. Sounds to me like you have all ready tried moving her up to the next size for whatever reason you had. Throw it away and she will adapt to the next size larger or learn to do without one.

My son is two and stills use the 0-3 mos nuk and he is fine. He would not switch to the next size either and I did not stress about. Your daughter will be fine with size, I would just drop it and let her be with what she likes.
Good luck

My kids never changed sizes, even my middle one who didn't give it up until she was almost 2.

My almost 6 month old son did get his stuck in his mouth (avent 0-3). He could barely make a noise, so thank god I was close by to get it out instantly! He has always chewed on it from the sides and back. I have looked into bigger pacifiers - but only the nipple is bigger and not the front casing part. I now only let him have it when I am rocking him because I'm afraid he'll do it again... but there are times when he wants one (middle of night if he wakes up or when he is extremely tired and trying to nap).
So your mom is right - it can happen! And it scared me and my little one terribly! I'm still trying to find a solution and a bigger pacifier!!

Hi R.,
I'm not sure which is the nuk, but my daughter would only take the blue ones that you get in the hospital(I think Soothies). I tried at least four other pacifiers. So, I just let her have them because they made her happy. They actually have a pink version that is the next size up and she would use that. But I don't think it really matters. If she likes them and they keep her happy go with it.
Good luck.

Hi R., I have read the below letters to you. I am a grandmother of four, two boy's and two girl's. I would keep an eye on your baby because there could be a chance that if it came apart that it could clog her breathing passage. I am just and old grandma but I still would be very careful.
Good luck I love little ones, hug your baby for me too.

I wouldn't worry about it I have a 15 month old that just changed over to the bigger size of NUK pacifiers. I think she will be just fine. I have had little ones chew on the backs of these with no problems either she is probably just teething. Good Luck

My 8 month old still uses the 0-3 month size. No big deal. And he chews on every part of it...hasn't gotten it stuck in his mouth yet. Mom is just a worry-wart, she'll be fine! ;o)

My 18mo old still sucks on whatever binkie is handy. Sometimes that is the newborn size. Check the pacifiers regularly to make sure they are in good condition.
