I have a 21 month old daughter. recently when i put her to bed at night she screams when i put her in her crib. i rock her to sleep and put her in her bed, but she is up 3 or 4 times a night screaming. she used to sleep 7pm-6:30am with no problems. now it seems that no matter what i do she wont stay asleep. when she's at her father's house, she sleeps through the night with no problem. Our routines are exactly the same so i am baffled as to why she will sleep there and not at my house.

What can I do next?

S.,
My son is 20 months and has slept through the night since he was 3 months old. He also recently has started waking up at night crying. Odd since he has always asked me to go night night and slept for 12 hours. I ran to him for a week and then realized that he just appears to be entering a new period of awareness. I decided to put a bottle of water with a little juice in the crib. I watch him on a video monitor and give him 10 minutes to resettle himself. If he doesn't I change him, give him a milk and leave him to cry. I couldn't do it with my first child, it broke my heart. But after struggling with her for for 3 years, if I can offer any advice, the one thing I have learned is that once we establish a pattern of going in, they will scream until we do it. Nip it in the bud. If she's doing it for dad it is simply behavioral. Good luck!

My guess is that the furnace is running more often and it is waking her up. Or at that age she's probably testing her security with you. They usually don't change their routine unless something's different and when it's better they go back. Maybe she's teething or gassy, any new foods?

At daddy's house is the crib by the window, wall or door? Is she able to see out of the room at one place and not the other? The security items should be the same as someone else mentioned.

Then I would take a look at the night time routine. Is Daddy rocking her to sleep and then laying her down? Is he feeding her nearer to her bedtime and so she expects to eat something right before bed?

I would change her room around and see if that makes a difference, sometimes change is good.

Just wondering if she sleep with the same "comfort" objects like a teddy or blanket and a pacifier at both places?? Also does she have a mobile at the other house? My daughter always puts her mobile on during the night.
