I have a 16 month old baby girl. For the first year of her life she slept all night no problems. All of a sudden she wakes up 3-4 times a night. No apparent reason. We give her a snack before bed so she isnt hungry. Nothing works. she will go back to sleep for alittle while and then wake up crying for mommy and daddy. I don't know what to do. HELP

What can I do next?

She is probably teething maby some baby motrin this will bring down the in-flo-mation lol sounding out how to say it. You also can give her some teeth numbing stuf but that seem's not to help long

Hope this is what it is good luck

Hi S.
We've had the same kind of issues with our 21 month old son. Some nights are great, we don't hear from him at all. Other nights, he's up a lot just screaming as if something were seriously wrong. We've tried rocking, giving him milk, letting him bunk with us (big mistake by the way), etc. I called our pediat. who said that if he's not sick, we need to leave him. We need go back to the basics--when we first starting having him sleep alone in his room. We'd rub his back and would talk to him softly to get him comfortable, then leave. We'd do this every fifteen minutes. But, we wouldn't pick him up. This lasted only a couple of nights. Eventually we didn't go in at all. He's learning now that when he wakes up, he doesn't need us. He is learning to get back to sleep on his own. And that is important for us since we have another due here in a matter of weeks. We cannot be up all night with two little ones!!
I would say that if your daughter isn't sick, doesn't have new teeth coming in, and is comfortable (with pjs, room temp., etc), I'd leave her. Try the 15 minute rule for a couple nights (with no picking up) then make it longer (20-30 mins) before going in. We were told that they learn that the screaming and crying is learned and that when you go in, they've learned how to get you to come in to their room. It's so hard to do and makes you feel frustrated because you want to be there for her, but I think you'd be helping her in the long run.

I feel for you, both of our kids (4 and 1 year) are terrible sleepers. We tried everything, but with both we eventually had to do the cry it out. It totally sucks and we put it off as long as possible, but it is the only thing allowed us to keep our sanity b/c we were all getting so sleep deprived and could not sustain the constant interruptions. If you haven't read it I would suggest Healthy Sleep Habits,Happy Child. Good luck!!!!

Could your daughter be napping too long during the day? My daughter is getting to where she doesn't need her morning nap, otherwise she stays up to late at night.

Could she be getting her molars, when my kids where getting their molars it seamed to effect their sleeping. I've heard that it puts a lot of pressure on the sinuses and ear canals, and that lying down makes it worse.

Just a thought.

I know that the usual suspects are teething and seperation anxiety....Has she had a cold recently? My son was totally over a bad cold , but kept waking in the night. Turned out to be an ear infection that didn't present any other symptoms.(pulling at ears, etc.) Once his antibiotics were finished, we had much less of the night waking. Good luck & hope you can get some sleep soon!

My 2 yr old daughter started doing this when we graduated her to a big girl bed at her two year birthday so my brother could have her crib for there baby. We tried everything I could think of to break this habit and nothing worked till we put her back in a playpin then she started sleeping all night again.. I have no idea why... Very frustrating..
