Non-picky Eater but Is "Done" After Having a Food Several Times

OK--this is like the opposite situation that about 95% of mothers have, but still can be QUITE frustrating!

My son (8 next month) will literally eat anything--you name it, he'll try it. (He ate steamed mussels at the shore last year.) BUT, it's like once he's had a food several times, he's "over" it. It's like he's on the eternal quest for new, different, exciting foods. Which sounds great, in theory, but in reality it's kind of tough. For instance he announced that he is "done" with sandwiches for lunches for school. OK. I put warm leftovers in a small Thermos, cheese & crackers, etc....but WHAT ELSE?
As for breakfast, apparently he's "done" with the following: cereals, yogurt, waffles, eggs, Pop Tarts, Granola bars and fruit.
What else can I give this kid? LOL He's been known to eat potato casserole or leftover pirogies for breakfast.
Any ideas for something different?

What can I do next?

I know exactly this O.. My daughter (8-yr) is the same way. Only O. thing she is never tired of is milk and cookies (only oreo) any time. I guess it might be the age, so for now I don't force her for anything, when she gets hungry, she has to eat (no other option). She does not even like her favorite dishes that I used to cook for her. Its frustrating. Try to keep it simple and basic diet that they need for healthy growth. Don't worry about feeding him a variety of things. If he says he's done with O. thing, don't even give him for few days or week, and then O. day try to eat in front of him he may ask for it again. But again that' my experience with my daughter.
As long he eats something healthy, don't worry too much.

He sounds like fun! Challenging, but fun!

What do you think about preparing a lunch list for a week at a time? Put on it all the things you'll be willing and able to fix for him that week, and let him choose. He'll have to do some repeating and he won't be able to have something new all the time, but maybe you could include a novelty or two - something really goofy - on the list. Maybe he'll have some suggestions, too, but they must be based on what's in the pantry (don't let him send you to Paris for escargots).

Many mamas are probably jealous that your boy will try things! Keep on encouraging that. Terrific! Hmmm... leftover pirogies sound good.

Great that you have an adventurous kid. You can ask him what he would like. You do not need your home to be like a new food network game show, but if he wants to try new foods you can explore them together. Get him involved in making his own lunch so that he can eat what he likes. Give him options of the things that you have and hear him out about what he would like, but in the end if you do not have it, you do not have it.
