Ok this is a question from my Niece. Her son is going to be 1 years old on December 26th and he has NO teeth. Isn't this a little unusual? She is worried and doesn't know what she should do. He chomps on our fingers and chin pretty good, but nothing. Thanks for any advice you guys may have for her!

Hi N.-
It is perfectly normal. All children get them at different times. My cousin's son did not have any teeth at a year old. He then started to get them around 1 year old. They came in relatively quickly from then on.

Don't worry they say the longer they take to come in the better. My daughter didn't get her first tooth till she was 22 months. So they are there. He might surprise you one morning with a mouth full.

This isnt anything to worry about...my nephew was at least 12-13 months old before he got his first teeth. They could feel the knots in his gums where the teeth were, but the dr said that he just had really healthy gums and therefore it was just really hard for his teeth to come through. Just use the ora-jel stuff and they say to use the gum massagers to help. Even a cold washcloth to gnaw on is a good thing. Hope this helps the little guy.

My daughter did not get any teeth until a week after she turned one. My doctor said that there is nothing wrong. so I would not worry yet.

My Hailey will be 1 in a few weeks and has only just recently cut her 3rd tooth. My dr says not to worry, when teeth come in later they are often healthier =)

I just wanted to give you a little reassurance.. My daughter did not get her first tooth until she was 14 months old!! We really did think there was something wrong with her but her Dr kept saying she was fine. And she was fine. After her first tooth came in, they all started coming in. She is now 11 years old and has perfectly healthy teeth!! Hope that eases your mind!!

I have a friend that has a little girl that turned one over the summer and she had no teeth. But just a week after her birthday she had 4 teeth pop through! Just be patient, it will happen!

Hi N.,
My two year old daughter started getting her teeth when she was almost 11 months old and she has now a full set of teeth and can bite really hard. It's prefectly normal to start getting teeth later. Some babies get them way past their first birthday, so I wouldn't worry about it as long as your nephew is eating enough (and they can mush food with their gums pretty efficiently).
