No Friends

We just moved to the area and are looking to make some friends. Does anyone know of playgroups in the brandon/valrico area? The last one we joined had too many requirements and we dont always have the budget to do expensive things. Most importantly my son needs some child interaction and I could use some adult interaction too! haha. Dont mean to sound desperate but I am kind of going crazy here by myself.

What can I do next?

I recently became a SAHM and have been doing a lot of research to find different things to do w/my child. I found a web-site called meetup.com and all you have to do is put in your zip code and it provides the different meetups available in your area. Look for mom groups, SAHM, Tampa moms, etc. I found a nice group and have started going to different things in the area.
Also in Brandon there is the family support center. They offer several classes and all is free.
Hope this helps

Hi T. -
I am a SAHM with a 23-month-old and another due in February '08. I am a member of 2 moms' groups that are fun and inexpensive to join: MOMS Club of Brandon (momsclubofbrandon.com or Kate, VP of membership, ____@____.com) and the MOPS Club of Brandon (brandonsda.org/mops.html or Kristi at ____@____.com). The MOMS Club has weekly playgroups at member's homes, so there is at least one activity a week that is constant. The MOPS group (short for Mothers of Preschoolers) is a Christian-based group. Both groups are full of moms that are very nice, not "stuffy" or "aloof" in any way. I think you would find these to be very helpful for you and a great way to meet more moms. Or just let me know if you need more info - ____@____.com.

T.,
There is a Family Support and Resource Center at 1277 Kingsway Rd. in Brandon. They have tons of free resources and playgroups. On their website, www.familysupporthc.org you can view their monthly calendar and info. Hope this helps.

Hi T. - I understand how lonely it can be without a network of friends! I am part of a MOPS (mother's of preschoolers) group that meets at FishHawk Fellowship Church on the second Monday of every month. It is a great group of girls with small children. We are just starting to put together play groups. If you are interested in going to the next meeting it is Oct. 8. Let me know if you want to go. Good Luck!
