My parents have been watching my son this summer and we wanted to get them a nice gift to say thank you. We were thinking of something along the lines of a dinner cruise or a nice night out but can't seem to think of any specific places. Any ideas?

TIA!

What can I do next?

Etta's Place Bed and Breakfast in Downtown Fort Worth is really nice and not too expensive. They have nice rooms and serve a great breakfast in the morning. You could treat them to dinner at Reatta and then they could hang out downtown after dinner.

We did a fun date "day" for my parents. First we got a big envelope and filled it with the following: vouchers for breakfast at Denny's, gift certificates to their favorite "browsing store" which happens to be half price books on NW Hwy, vouchers for a meal at a restaurant nearby (Jason's Deli), a coupon for a plant at Calloway's (my mom loves plants) and directions to an art gallery that is fun to look through. Then we bought them tickets to a movie we knew they wanted to see, and vouchers for a nice meal at their favorite restaurant. We packed a little cooler with cold drinks and little snacks for them to take along. They had an absolute blast. We told them to dress casual/comfortable and prepare for a whole day starting at 9AM...then we put envelopes inside the big envelope that were numbered...so they'd dig through until they found envelope number one, and it had the Denny's vouchers in it. Then they pulled out envelope #2 and it had three dollars and these directions: "pull over at the nearest convenience store and buy a cup of coffee for dad and a dr. pepper for mom." Then the 3rd envelope had the gift certificates to half price books, and so on. They had an absolute blast. They agreed to do what each envelope said before they opened the next one. It was such a good time for everyone... we couldn't stop thinking about them and grinning while they went on their fun adventure.

If your parents are active and sociable they might enjoy a mystery theater dinner. We sent my inlaws to one a couple of years ago as a Christmas gift and they enjoyed it. I used http://www.murdermysterytexas.com They offer dinners or a whole mystery weekend in an old hotel. You can google it and find several places around the metroplex that do the same thing, I think they have one at the Gaylord. It sounds fun, I wish my husband would take me to one on a date, ha!

Depending on how much you want to spend.....a weekend at a bed-in-breakfast for some tranquility might be well appreciated. Or maybe you can check for a great show at Casa Manana or a place similar....even ticketmaster might be a great place to browse. Actually, though, your dinner cruise idea sounds spectacular!

You could look into the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. They have cruises on the lake, I've heard. There is also a really nice glass restaraunt out there, the Glass Cactus, I believe. I haven't been there myself, but have been in the hotel. It's like a little city, and I've heard good things about all the restaraunts in the hotel.

E-
Its Whit...how about a family trip to the theater and a nice dinner. Would your parents want to get away? There are some super deals on the internet right now to San Francisco (which is close to the wine country) or Grandbury and Fredericksberg have some beautiful b&b's with lots for them to do.

My mom and stepdad live in rural AL and they don't go out to eat very much, especially nice places (if you can find one in their area, LOL)

Anyway, there is a very upscale (for their area, AL) steak place there and I have contacted the restaurant directly and set up a nice dinner for them.

I've also sent gift cards to places like Outback and Olive Garden which are 2 places they enjoy.

As for this area.....Why not a great dinner at an upscale place like Del Frisco's, III Forks, Ruth Chris, Lawry's, Bob's, Al Berneits? Those are all very nice restaurants. You can probably sponsor a dinner for 2 around $200 and more if they would enjoy a nice bottle of wine.

How sweet of you!
