New to San Antonio, What Can We Do This Summer with a Baby?

I just moved to San Antonio this past year. I had my first baby 4 months ago (February), and am wondering what fun things there are to do around town with a small baby? I am not used to this kind of heat, and am not comfortable keeping my baby outdoors for very long. He is also breastfeeding every three hours, which makes it difficult to be out in public very long. My mother in law bought us Sea World passes, but that's outdoors (like the zoo and botanical gardens) and geared toward much older children. Any ideas for us?

What can I do next?

I used to just take my son to McDonald's and let him watch the older kids in the play area. Your son might be a bit too young for that, but if he does have any interest in watching other kids, McDonald's is a great indoor place to find them.

Also, Dynamoze is an indoor play area located in the shopping center at 281 and Brookhollow. They have a large matted area with big soft blocks for babies to play in. I believe it's even free for babies under 12 months.

From a very young age, my son liked to be anywhere where he could just watch people - and cars. I'd take him to a restaurant during off-hours, get myself a drink, set him up on the table and let him look out the window at cars going by on the freeway. He became very popular with the waitresses at the Denny's on Bitters and 281.

If you ever go to Houston, their children's museum has an EXCELLENT area for infants and toddlers. I have never seen another children's museum anywhere with such a great set-up for the tiniest tots. Don't bother with San Antonio's museum, and New Braunfels museum is probably too big for a 4 mo. But Houston must not be missed!

If you are close to the Schertz area (I-35 and 3009), I own an indoor playroom for the younger kids (up to about 5 or 6 years old).
I do not start charging for the kids until they are walking.
It is called Party Station. Here is the website if you are interested.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks :)

Give Destination Maternity a call at ###-###-####. They have a class called Mommy and Me for moms with babies up to crawling. It is indoors and free! I haven't done it in SA, but I did it in Dallas with my little one and met so many new moms and had a blast indoors once a week.

I know you don't want to be outside, but the zoo does have a place for small children called Tiny Tots and they have a separate nursing room in the ladies' bathroom there (air-conditioned).

Since you have passes at Sea World, just go early morning, or evening. That will help.

Most of the stuff I like to do is outdoors, so I don't have much else to offer you. But, many people are not aware of the nursing room at the zoo. I thought it was wonderful!

The malls do open early so people can walk in an air-conditioned area. You could put your kid in the stroller and let him enjoy all the sights/lights, etc. As you walk and destress and get some exercise too.

There is a new (expensive) pizza place over at West Ave. and Blanco Rd. I think it's called Amazing Pizza or something like that. It's like Chuck-E-Cheese, but better, more geared for adults.

Ice Skating over at 281 and 1604.

Hi Heather,

I moved here last year, this is my first summer here too. The only place i know of to escape the heat, other than a museum, is called Dynamoze -- but it's mostly geared toward toddlers (i have a 3 yr old and a 2 month old). I myself need ideas of what to do with a baby!!?
