New to Area. Looking for a Pediatrician.

We just moved to the area, and I am looking for a pediatrician for my two children ages 3 years and 15 months. We are currently living in Doral, but will most likely end up in the Miramar/Pembroke Pines area. A female physician is preferred, but I will certainly consider a male doctor if he comes highly recommended. The size of the practice is not an issue as long as the doctor is more concerned about the quality of care and not how many patients they can see in a day. Thanks for the help.

What can I do next?

We see Dr. Alberto Kriger at Pediatric Associates. We have been with him for 11 years now. Its a large practice with both male and female doctors. They also are open 7 days a week for urgent care. They are located next to the Pembroke Lakes mall in Pembroke Pines.

Warning-The doctors in Broward are not that good! Keep the one you have in Doral and travel!!! Never, Ever go to Pediatric Associates for sure.

I also used West Broward Pediatrics. Our main Dr. is Dr. Mizrachy but I've also seen Dr. Morrison and Dr. Silverberg (the female partner) and all three are great. The office is usually not too busy and they always spend the time you need with them. They also stay later into the night if they have sick children to see and (as mentioned by Bekah) have Saturday morning appts also. We recently moved overseas but I still take my girls to see Dr. MIzrachy for well visits whenever we're in town.

I was in your shoes last summer after relocating. When I posted my question, I got a number of opinions, but several for sure about avoiding the big practices up here. (Pediatric Associates and one other one.) I happened to go to the other one when my daughter got sick and I didn't have time to look around. I went there because they had weekend hours and a lot of docs. However, after going twice, I decided to switch immediately. Yes, they had completely separate rooms for well and sick children and one for newborns, but the care we received was only so-so. It was crazy busy and crowded both times I went. The 2nd time we were seen for all of 3 minutes by a nurse practitioner. Their office also lost some of my paperwork, which was frustrating since I was having to deal with transferring in from out of state. So...I would go with Shari and not use them.

I ended up at West Broward Pediatrics. My daughter was just over 2 at the time and I was also pregnant. Turned out that they also serviced the hospital i gave birth in, so I was very please about that. There are 3 men and 1 woman doc there. I have, ironically, seen all 3 men, but have yet to see their female doc. But all of the doctors take the time to answer your questions and address concerns. They don't seem to have a lot of people in the office at one time, which is helpful. The office staff are very helpful as well. You will have to probably leave a message the first time you call for an appointment, but they do call you back that day. You'll also need your shot records to get in for a 1st appointment. They have a location in Weston, which is about a 10 minute drive north on Dykes Rd/Weston Rd. Their main office is in Plantation, which is about 20 minutes from N. Pembroke Pines. I live near the Sheridan Rd exit. The Plantation office does have saturday morning hours, which is nice. Also, they have their on call set up with Miami Children's so you can talk to a nurse after hours if you need to. We've had to use both services and were pleased with both.
The doctors are Dr. Tafeen, Dr. Morrison, Dr. Mizrachy and Dr. Silverberg (the female). We prefer Dr. Mizrachy, but they are all good. They all are flexible with vaccinations and will try to avoid antibiotics if possible. Not sure if any of those things are important to you, but thought I'd mention them.

Also, when I have called in the morning with a sick kid, they usually always get me in that morning at the Weston location. Afternoons are busier with kids after school. And the summertime was a little bit crazier with pre-school physicals and such, but I would just plan to schedule check-ups strategically during that time.

We started out in Miami near the airport when we moved because my husband works down there. But we have been really happy living up in the western Pembroke Pines/Miramar/Southwest Ranches area. Good luck settling in!
