Hi I am moving back to Chicago and I am looking for a school for my daughter in the Lincoln Park or Palos Hills area. My work has offices in both areas and i can choose which office i want to work from. So i need to decide depending on which area has the best schools and living conditions. My daughter is in 1st grade and will need to continue her 1st grade class when we get back to Chicago. I like the city and if i can get a good school for my daughter i will consider staying in the city. I would like to find a school in the 2200 North to 4000 North area.
Any recommendations!!
Thanks

So What Happened?

So far it seems like Palos Hills has a good reputation. I do not know anything about it but what i have researched so far. So do I think i will probably take the Palos Hills option and also Chicago schools are so competitive and so hard to get into especially the good things so I think I can fair better in Palos Hills because i do not have enough time to hustle with the schools in Chicago. Finding an apartment for the time being will also be what i have to do because i won't have time to find a nice house in such short notice. Schools are opening on the 8th from what i understand. I am looking into renting a house too. Does Palos Hills have nice houses for rent even apartments, maybe someone can recommend an apartment place, that will be very helpfull.

Thanks for your suggestions.

L.

I wish I could offer you more help, but I can tell you that Palos Heights/Hills is the Best!! My mom worked at Palos Community Hospital and commuted 45 minutes for years to continue doing so. My daughter was born there in 1986 and I have heard nothing but good since that time. We used to drive up from Joliet just to see the Christmas lights, and if I remember correctly, the Stone church had a great Christian school. Sounds like you have lots of options. I'm praying for the best place for your child. XO L.

I live in Oak Lawn, and have always loved the Palos area, I think there are some nice homes for rent, I would avoid some of the apartments, since they tend to fester college students. As for school, I have heard great things about St. Patricia's. I think in Palos you could also be in the Incarnation parish (Crestwood/Palos), which is a fantastic school as well.

I grew up in Palos Hills and I really loved the neighborhood. It's very close to the highways, and it's not overcrowded. I went to a Catholic school in the area, so I can't speak for the public school system.

I have heard that The Bell School in Chicago (around 3800 N. Claremont) is an EXCELLENT school.

If you are interested in private schools, St Ben's is at Irving Park (4000 block) between Damen and Western. It is a nice school; my daughter goes to preschool there so I am not as familiar with the grade school but it seems great!

Dear L.,
I can not speak about Lincoln Park but I do know a two elementary schools in Palos Hills called Palos East or West(District 118). They are small schools with a strong curriculum tied to the state standards. The teachers are wonderful and the community has a lot to offer. I taught there until I moved to Naperville. It is close to the city since it is a south suburb of Chicago. The housing is costly but there are areas around Palos Hills and Palos Heights that may interest you (Orland Park, Tinley Park). I am sure Lincoln Park has wonderful schools such as private schools but I can say that District 118 scores well when it comes to teaching their children.
Good Luck,
J
