Wouldn't you know it, just when my family gets settled into an area we have to move. My husband has taken a job in St. Louis and has been there for a couple of months while my children and I stay in the Kansas City area until our house sells. To make a long story short, we are moving at the end of May to the St. Charles area, but I can't for the life of me figure were a good area to raise my children and send them to a good school. We come from a smaller area and I don't want to over welm them or myself. I am not much of a city girl (raised country) and the move sort of freeks me out. Can anyone help me in finding or looking in a good area to raise my children?
Thank you everyone, I am going over to St. Louis the 1st weekend in March, and I am going to check out everything you have sent me. Thanks for the great advise and help. It really does mean alot.

There is a smaller school district in St. Charles county. It is called Orchard Farm School District. It is in the middle of farm land. It's a nice district because it's not too big. My husband graduated from there and I taught there for two years. If you're looking for a neighborhood which feeds to Orchard Farm, there is a newer development called New Town - It is pretty neat, but probably pricey!

I taught at Lincoln Elementary in St Charles last year. It is a very good school (won the Gold Star Award in 2000 for excellent performances on the MAP tests). It is the smallest school in the St Charles district. The teachers are very friendly and willing to work with parents. I hated leaving the wonderful teachers and students but it was worth it to be able to stay home with my little boy.

Hi,
I have a St. Charles address but live right on the line I can see the St. Peters town sign from my front door :) My oldest goes to Central School Grade School and I am very pleased the principal is a woman and everyone has been great there. I would recomend it & it's a nice school it's just a few years old. I'm from a small rual area myself and I was floored to find out they had 7 kindergartens when my daughter started school :) It is different but I do like having stuff so close by but I know my children will grow up much differently than I did and there are good & bad things that go with it like everything else. St Charles area is good I think you'll be happy here.

Hello K., my name is D. and I live in the St. Charles area. My husband and I have two children (two girls, 9 & 4). We live in the Francis Howell School District. There are a lot of places to live in St. Charles or surrounding areas. Are you looking for rural areas or were you looking more for a subdivision setting. Will you be working outside of the home as well as your husband? I ask because I don't know how far you or your husband would want to drive to work.
If your looking for rural areas: Wentzville, Troy, New Melle Orchard Farms or St. Paul
These areas have subdivisions where the homes are built on 3-acre lots.
As for your standard subdivisions (normal side by side housing): St. Charles County is huge but it has smaller communities within it. When looking for a home online include in your search engine, St. Peters, O'Fallon, as well as any of the above cities from rural.
The school districts in the St. Charles area would be: Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt, Wentzville, Troy, Orchard Farms, and St. Charles School District.
I noticed you mentioned in the "little about me" section you guys like sports. For soccer we have SCCYSA (St. Charles County Youth Soccer Assoc.), website SCCYSA.com or SPAA (St. Peters Athletic Assoc.) website SPAA.com. There is also the RECPlex. This place has everything for all ages. Go to stpetersmo.net, on the left is a drop down box that says "Select a Department", select RexPlex from this drop down box and it will tell you everything this place has to offer (sports, pools, exercise classes, ice skating lessons, etc.).
I could go on and on. You can email me direct here at work (____@____.com) or home (____@____.com).

I live in O'Fallon, MO and we absolutely love it. It is very family friendly, and there's always lots to do. The community events are great. I think it was the 39th "Best Place to Live" last year. I haven't had any kids in school yet, but my oldest is going to kindergarten this fall, so I've been asking around and everyone seems to like the public schools (Ft.Zumwalt School District). I also have a few people on my street who send their kids to private school (including a teacher who teaches at St. Patrick's) and love it also. I would check out specific neighborhoods/subdivisions also--I live on a short cul de sac street that is filled with kids playing in the summer and grownups visiting--it's absolutely fabulous. Good luck with the move!

You request sounds very familuar to me as my parents moved our family from Overland Park to St. Peters when I was 10. I have lived in St. Charles Co since.
My family lives in unincorporated St. Charles Co (highway DD and Sommers Rd area)which is somewhat country and my kids went to Boone Trail Elementry which is in the Wentzville School District, one is a senior in high school and a freshman at the community college now. The children that attend this school are from newer subdivisions and homes with land there are not many trailer parks and apartment complex children going to this school. My girlfriend moved here a few years ago from a small town in Tennesse with four young children and they attend school Boone Trail and she has been very pleased with the school and teachers. There are many activities offered to the children in the area many are in scouts and 4 H Club. The catholic schools in the area are very nice as well although somewhat pricey.
We have lived in the area for about 19 years and although progress has moved into our country area (Walmart, Lowes, and many grocery stores)we are tucked away enough to still have peace and quite and land in between us and our neighbors. If subdivision living is more to your liking they are going up everywhere along the main roads and you can find them tucked away down back roads as well.
If you want more information on the area feel free to email me.
Good luck with the move
K.
Hope this helps and the Orchard Farms School area has all the schools close, the Elementary School, Middle School and High School are all together in one area, but seperate buildings.

Hi - I grew up in KC too and now live in St. Charles. The St. Charles school district is great - we love it. We had our kids in Montessori school and loved their methods and kind of became snobs against public school. Then when a specific teacher at the Montessori school basically stopped teaching, we had to move our kids to public school. We lived near Harris Elementary and my husband and I visited and grilled the principle and the counselor about how they taught. We were both impressed. When we transferred our kids mid-year, my son just blossomed in the new environment. My daughter, who didn't want to move, also thrived - after she got over being mad about it. I love this school district because they really care about the kids and do not let anyone slip through the cracks. When kids struggle, they find ways to adapt. The city of St. Charles has several areas - lots of it is newer suburbs that are a lot like Overland Park suburbs. There is also a very charming older section near the river. Or, if you want a truly wonderful experience, where you'll really feel like you are in a small town, visit New Town St. Charles. This is the "new urbanism" development, designed so that people can easily be friendly neighbors. You can walk to restaurants and other businesses. There are nice little parks for kids. Free entertainment, including free movie nights in the summers out on the amphitheater lawn. Here's the web site: http://www.newtownatstcharles.com/ This is not in the St. Charles school district. It's in the Orchard Farms district, which is smaller and more rural. But, I have heard the schools are very good. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions about this area or New Town (my husband is the entertainment director there!)

I moved to the St. Charles area 10 years ago from Iowa. I love it!! We live in O'Fallon. I have 3 children, a 3rd grader and (2) 1st graders, we are in the Fort Zumwalt school district. My children go to Westhoff Elementary. It is an amazing school! A few years ago, my daughter was halfway through her Kindergarten year and my husband took a job in Arizona so we up and moved out there well we only stayed a year and moved back here halfway through her 1st grade year. We made sure we found a house in this area because we wanted her to go back to Westhoff. The principal Mr. Sefrit is amazing!! He is very involved and knows every kids name. The teachers are amazing, loving and wonderful. Now of course my boys are there too. I highly recomend this school. I also highly recommend the city of O'Fallon. We love it here. There are a few homes for sale in our area, look in Homefield or High Grove Subdivions. If you like sports you will love this area, there are many things to get involved in. We have a minor league baseball park right here in O'Fallon and a Indoor Football team St. Charles. My kids are very involved in soccer, basesball, dance, cheerleading. I can't tell you enough what a great are this is. If you have any more questions just let me know.

Francis Howell, Fort Zumwalt, and Wentzville are all pretty good school districts but they are all also very large.
Orchard Farms is smaller (but growing) and another good school.
There are so many great districts in this area, it really isn't necessary to send your child to a private school unless you really prefer private schools. The people that I knew that transferred in high school from a private school (specifically, All Saints Parish) to public school were really far behind and overwhelmed.

You didnt mention if you were looking for private or public. I have one in 8th grade and one in Kindergarden at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, a Catholic school in St. Charles. We love it there. They have about 400 students K-8, not too big, not too small. My son has 18 in his kindergarden class. They have an awesome Athletics program too. You can start your children as young as pre-k in soccer and t-ball. We were new to the parish and school about 4 years ago and everyone was so nice and accomodating. Now some of our best friends are ones we met through the kids sports.
If you are looking for a public school our neighbor sends her children to Henderson Elementary, part of the Francis Howell School district and she raves about it. St. Charles County is really a nice area to live and there are so many good schools out here, you really cant go wrong. I wish you luck and hope you like it out here as much as I do.

We live in New Town in St. Charles. It is a planned community and it has been voted one of the best selling communities for two years in a row now. Check out the web site. We have good public schools, though my children are in a private Lutheran school because of our preferences.
We have tons of family oriented things to do, lakes for fishing, swimming or canoeing. We have numerous playgrounds spread throughout our community. We have several churches, restaurants, and an outdoor amphitheatre for summer concerts and plays. We have our own pool that is private and for the people that live in the subdivision only. The scenery is beautiful, the neighborhood is full of children and very safe. We have lived here for 15 months and I could not imagine living anywhere else! Check it out.

Hi K.,
My kids went to a smaller (though the area is growing) school just outside of St Charles called Orchard Farm. I hated to have to move them out of that school. They are EXCELLENT!! They have an all day kindergarten which is great. They are also are teaching Spanish to all grades. I can not say enough great things about the school district. I regret ever moving out of it! To be in the Orchard Farm district you would have to live around the hwy 370/Elm area. A new development called New Towne is part of Orchard Farm. If you are looking for public schools you really should look at Orchard Farm.
I hope that helps

Where will he be working at? How long of a commute is he willing to make?
We are in the Wentzville school district. We have been here since my 4th grader started school. We really like it. Ft. Zumwalt is pretty good too. I would look in the areas of Wentzville, Lake St. Louis (no fencing allowed here though, thats a down side), O'Fallon, Dardenne Prairie. These are all small suburbs, good areas.
I am in Lake St. Louis.
