Hello, I would like to know if an infant about 2-3 weeks old does their lips peel or shed as well as their skin? My son is african american and I notice his lips have like a coating on them like a other skin over his skin like harder like his lips are not pink you can see its pink put it has a layer like over his lips like it dont supposed to stay like that I dont know if you expierence that at all in some or most babies, is that normal or would the lips of the baby skin peel off for you to see soft normal pink or brown lips??? Hope you understand the question.
Newborn baby skin is not used to the world and it's normal for it too get pimply or peel. It should go away after awhile.
HI M., congratulations! yes that is totally normal for a breastfeeding baby. Don't worry about it and enjoy your baby. It's amazing what we forget between children. I have a newborn and a 3 year old and we haven't quite figured out how the newborn works yet LOL!
Not sure if this is the same thing you are talking about, but both my babies got thick skin on their lips - almost like a blister - from breastfeeding after their first few days. It went away after a couple of weeks.

hi-has the same thing. it's a sucking blister. it will not peel, but it will eventually disappear. my daughter's did. she's now six months and once in a while gets it again.

My daughter's lips peeled from breast feeding callouses (spelling?). It is normal for a newborn to get callouses on their lips. My son's skin peeled noticably all over within 2-3 weeks of birth.
I would call your dr. if you feel that they are not callouses from feeding. The callouses do eventually fall off but I don't remember when.

Yes, all of a baby's skin may peel off in the first month including the skin on their lips. It will often look like they have cracked, chapped lips or appear similar to when you have a hangnail. Do not try to remove it yourself. As long as the baby is well hydrated and all else is normal then this should resolve itself.

I'm a new mom also - my daughter is 4 weeks old today. I think what you are describing is called a nursing blister. It's totally normal - happens more from breastfeeding but also can happen from bottle feeding. Supposedly it will go away in a few weeks. My daughter has one also on her upper lip right in the middle - it's not peeling, but it's a white part of her lip.
I don't think it's anything to worry about especially if the baby doesn't seem to have any pain. Good luck!
