i think im about to switch from netflix to blockbuster. They apparantly are about to blow netflix out of the water. Soon netflix will be two separate charges, one for streaming one for movies by mail. NO thanks.
I wanted to see if anyone has netflix and what your thoughts are on it? Is there anther site comparable that you recommend?
There are some shows I am trying to catch up on some past seasons. I know netflix has them on streaming...
Thanks in advance.

Canceled and went to Blockbuster and use Redbox...
netflix realized the error they made in making changes so they are back pedaling and trying to get customers back...
Canceled because their fees were going up and I was getting less.
I have the mail-order Netflix (now called Qwickster). I like it. My price went down form 10 dollars a month to 7. I was happy with that since we don't do streaming. It takes about 2 days from mailing your disk back to getting a new one. I only had one scratched disk out of probably 30.
We have Netflix. We loved it for the last year and a half. We are not too happy about the changes they have made. We no longer get DVD's in the mail we just have the streaming through our Blu Ray and Wii. We thought about switching to Blockbuster until they explained the streaming on demand you pay PER movie with the on demand anywhere from 99 cents to 6.99 per movie. They don't just explain that to you I asked the rep this. OK so we get unlimited streaming to our device and that is included in the price right even the on demand she said no they cost when you order a movie on demand. It could run in to big buck!!!! We opted to just keep the streaming from Netflix for 7.99 a month for now. We are just waiting for them to have a option that includes unlimited on deman and videos mailed and live streaming for one LOW price. Redbox is only a dollar per movie so we get new releases that way. We never had to pay extra for anything on Netflix instant streaming I didn't even know there was such a thing.
We have it. Have had it for several years, and no we're not happy at all about the changes they made. However, in my disgust shopping around trying to find a replacement option, I haven't found anything that suits our needs as well. Our kids watch streaming more than we do (we like movies on DVD, and not the most recent movies, but often older difficult to find and/or subtitled movies) and don't always watch our movie on DVD in one sitting (husband falls asleep half the time and has to finish it a day or two later).
We don't use it for watching many TV series episodes, so most of the alternatives aren't a good fit for us. We use satellite to watch Fox News and sports (tell me where else I can find that not delayed viewing). Most of the alternative DVD rentals are per day rentals (redbox) or you "borrow" it digitally for 24 hours. Neither of those fit our needs. Or there is a per view charge for streaming -- not happening with kids using it, a flat fee is SO much better for that.
I wish we could still get 2 movies out (unlimited movies per month) plus unlimited streaming for $15/month. But they went up, so we cut back to one movie out at a time. I'm not happy they are splitting the two services soon either. That means that our movie reviews/queues will not be meshed so that getting "suggestions" for us will be skewed.
But, we haven't found a good alternative. Yet.
I think it depends on your needs. We don't watch a whole lot of movies or TV really. We haven't had "regular" TV for 11 years now. We have Netflix streaming and enjoy it. Mostly I put on a documentary to listen to while I clean or the kids will watch some cartoons on the weekends. Sometimes we will sit down and watch a movie together or watch back episodes of a show. For our limited needs it works just fine and is way cheaper than cable.
been using Netflix for years now. LOVE it, but hate their new pricing guidelines. Sound & quality are great, choices are good.
In a few months, I will start sampling other resources. I understand Netflix's stand.....& honestly am glad that I don't have to "buy" dvd rentals to be able to stream - which is what we use more.
We got it for the summertime (catch up on our dvds). I plan to cancel it next week now that shows are on tv. We don't have cable/sattelite.
Here's my opinion:
NETFLIX: Good for old tv shows and kid shows (my son loves to watch old episodes of Garfiled and SuperWhy and Dinosaur Train. Old movies on there, old tv shows like alll the seasons of Twin Peaks or something.
NETFLIX (QUICKSTER-DVDS only): Good if you watch a lot of new movies. We watch maybe 2 or 3 movies a month when there are shows on tv, so we don't need Quickster anymore).
HULU.com: great for watching your favorite tv shows. CBS is not so great about allowing their shows on there. But other shows are. Most programs will let you see the latest 4 episodes for free. But for 8.99/mo you can watch ALL old episodes of LOTS of programs. Look on there (free). If it has a green "h+" next to the thumbnail of the show, then that means you have to be a subscriber.
REDBOX: Great for renting new dvds at $1/each
My local LIBRARY: They have a LOT of good movies. I have deleted movies off my netflix list b/c my library got them. They're free and I can rent them for a whole week for free. Not a libraries are as good as mine, but you can often reserve them online and just go pick it up. (This is the best way to find the good movies. They're never on the shelf to browse.) Super-easy.
.
I have netflix and it's awesome! I would suggest getting hulu+ because netflix doesn't have the worlds widest selection of tv. They do have a 30 day free trial so you can find out if it's worth it. I think it is. I have found so many great movies and tv shows on there. :D If you like British shows, there are a lot of them on there and I LOVE IT!
We have Netflix (just streaming, not Qwikster), and we like it. We also use redbox or amazon for the occasional movie, and hulu for catching up on recent shows. My husband built a DVR for us to record our shows, so we mostly just watch them when we can (we don't have cable).
We will probably cancel our netflix in the future..amazon is better quality and is really increasing their selection.
We have had Netflix since it started. We figured at some point they would have to start paying for streaming.. You can just use the Streaming portion of Netflix, but remember not everything is being streamed at this point.
We tried Blockbuster at one point, but they sensor the movies they carry. There are just too many movies and TV shows we wanted to see that they did not offer. We also love foreign films and British TV shows,Blockbusters selection is pitiful.
We also recently purchased Roku, so we can see that streaming also. It is good as an addition, but does not replace or even compete with Netflix, instead it is just another way to get shows that are not on DVD's.
We only have Netflix in our house, no regular TV, satellite or cable. It works fine for our needs. I rarely watch anything, and my 9 year-old finds plenty to watch.
Some people like Amazon.com for streaming movies, because of their selection. I can't compare the prices, however, since I'm not familiar with Amazon's pricing.
Netflix no longer has a relationship with starz so like 80% of the instant streaming is gone, then they jacked up their fees and separated the instant and DVDs at home.. we cancelled when the fees went up and haven't looked back! We could NEVER get the new release DVDs.. now we just do our directv or redbox.. it's way cheaper and less annoying.
We have had NetFlix for almost 1 year. I like it because you can watch TV shows without commercials. I don't watch it as much as my husband. I kind of wish the movie selection was just a little bit better. We were getting movies through the mail but they wanted to double the price so we just have it through the Wii. If prices go up again, I don't know that we would keep it.
Absolutely LOVE it! We've had Netflix for years, and have had not a single problem EVER. I know a lot of people are upset about the streaming thing (there are legal reasons for that by the way that are out of Netflix' control mostly), but since we never use that we actually are happier, since our price went DOWN. The convenience is superior to any other rental method. Their website is awesome. It recommends movies for you based on the reviews you give other movies you've seen. You can add movies to your queue as you think of them, to watch later. Every once in a while a Classic movie will show up that we've added to our queue and forgot about. It's always a pleasant suprise. My kids like it too, since 1 of the 3 movies we have at any given time is usually a kid movie, and they can watch it over and over and over until they're sick of it, and a week or month later we can return it by just dropping it in the mail. We can get new releases within a week of their release too. We tried Redbox, but I was all stressed out that I'd forget to return the movie the next day, and then had to make a special trip to drop it off the next night. The kids would have watched it again if we could have kept it longer. My husband and I also like that we can rent HBO or Showtime series. We watched all or part of the Sopranos, Entourage, Weeds, Six Feet Under, Big Love, Dexter, and others I can't think of at the moment. Oh, and did I mention they have a warehouse in Utah, so their turnaround service is super speedy - usually just 2 days from the day you mail them back. And no, I don't work for them ;) but hubby and I were just having a conversation a couple days ago about how much we like them.
love it, despite the price increase! we all find something we like both on DVDs and on streaming.
