Exercising 3x a week is as effective as Prozac. In fact, the pharmies are having serious issues showing that their meds work at all. Why? because most of it is behavioral, not neurological.
Hey Ladies! Its crazy me!!! First of all you guys r wonderful!!! I have my BFF's but I love you guys too! Anyone want to comment on prozac. Im going back to the oldies. So scared of ssri sexual side effects but I know a few people that it did not affect. Wellbutrin did nothing for me. Also anyone want to comment on Lamactil? And for those of you that have responded i value all of ur opinions just soooo nervous about the whole anxiety medication thing...... Im not that depressed but im like a roaring engine.
Any feedback appreciated!

What does your doctor say? Have you considered a second, third opinion?
If you are not "that" depressed, what about a exercise and diet change?
What is happening in your life that is making your "engine roar"?
Blessings......
St John's wort takes the edge off. Holy basil is great for anxiety. Vitamin d helps too, especially in the winter months.
I tried prozac and had the sexual side effects. I didn't really feel human anymore. Lithium tore up my stomach and depacote (sp?) wasn't much better. That's why I go natural now. Plus exercise is a Godsend. I truly believe it is as good as other meds with the positive side effect of keeping me at a healthy weight :)
I'm currently taking Zoloft and although it's an ssri it hasn't affected my libido. You just have to try different meds until you find one that reduces your anxiety with the fewest side effects. You won't know which one will be the one for you until you try it. And what works for one doesn't work for another.
I took Prozac a few years ago and as I recall it wasn't effective for me. I've taken several ssri's over the years and they've all be effective. For me, a med stops helping after so many months or a year or so and I have to switch. I've also gone for months at a time without any medication.
I have a friend who is bi-polar and lamictil sent her thru the roof with anxiety. Her therapist said that she has patients for whom it works well.
I suggest that you start with the one your doctor suggests and go from there. You can always quit and try something different. Just be sure to stay in touch with your doctor.
I've been going to a nurse practitioner for several years now. His focus is on meds and knows more about them than my regular doctor. I started with the meds when I was seeing a psychiatrist for depression. Just to tell you there is more than one professional who can help you with meds.
Look into Buspar. It's for anxiety only. I like it and no sexual side effects!
Wow. I was getting ready to post asking about meds and saw this. I think it was meant to be. :). Anyhow, I don't have much advice to add. But an taking Celexa and it seemed to have been working great for me... Until I tried to come off of it too soon on my own. (I know now, stupid move). Now, about a week ago, I went back to my original dose that I was prescribed. Now I'm worried that it won't be as effective this time around becuase I feel like I started to feel better by now last time. See, part of my anxiety! But, this is about your concerns. So I would say, don't rule out anything. My libido did not change with the drug I am on and it seemed to have been doing well for me before I tried coming off. Good luck figuring it out. This process of trial and error requiring patience really sucks!
My husband has had good results with Lamictal for depression/bi-polar symptoms.
Klonopin helped me alot but I am very careful with it.
