So What Happened?

First of all, once again, ya'll are AWESOME!! I appreciate everything ya'll shared with me.....So, I had the biopsy last Friday (lived thru it, NEVER want to do it again!!) And found out yesterday that my mean little tumor is NOT CANCEROUS!!!! What a relief. Now he is talking about removing the whole parotid gland though, and I am aware of the facial nerve, and am a bit apprehensive about that, so if anybody's had THAT done, let me know!

Thanks again super mommies!! :)

Ok I am not sure if this is the same as I had done. I had a mass growing on my left thyroid and before my dr operated he did a biopsy on it to determine if it was cancerous or not(which it wasnt)

I was SOOOOO scared to go and have him put a needle into my throat...I have a BIG fear of needles. The needle was quite long but to be honest it actually didn't even hurt at all!!! Just try to stay calm and breathe to keep yourself relaxed.

If it is a thyroid biopsy they will numb it and that will probably be the most painful part, like a beesting. you will feel discomfort afterwards, but it will go away quickly. Ask what you can take for discomfort afterwards, probably ibprofin or something along those lines. You should not take aspirin or tyelonol before procedure as these medications thins your blood out.

the best advice is to try to stay calm. it may be a little uncomfortable, but won't be painful. they will deaden the area and prob give you something for nerves! i was scared as well. i is scary but will be ok. good luck and God bless!

I had two on my thyroid. The first one was the worst experience. I cried during and after. I was swollen and sore for a couple of days after. They did not numb me or give me any other pain meds before. I felt that the person doing it was in total disregard for the pain I was in. The second one was a thousand times better. Luckily it was done by my endocrinologist in her office and she prescribed me zanax before the procedure to keep me calm. It worked. It was uncomfortable and I was sore for a day or two but it was not as bad as I was anticipating because of my first one. It all depends on who does it in my opinion.

Hey there, M. B, I've never had an u/s guided bx, but I had one where the mamogram squisher was used. Just relax. The u/s is used to make sure that the needle goes to the right place so the doc can get what he needs for the lab to work on. It's just like any other bx, they'll numb the area and maybe give you something to help you relax. (If they don't..ask for it) Actually, it''s good that they're using the u/s. That means that the lesion is too small or too poorly defined to feel. Good Luck, let us know how it all turns out. Consider yourself hugged!

I had this done last may. I didn't think the procedure was bad at all. I guess depending on your pain tolerance. I would say it didn't even feel as bad as bee sting. The worst part for me was after. My neck was really swollen and I had a hard time turning my head and swallowing. It sucked. For about 5-7 days it was like that. I had to take asprin because was pregnant when i had it done. Otherwise I think they were going to prescribe vicodin. If they offer it take it because aspirin didn't put a dent in my pain.

I had one on my thyroid it hurt during but once it was over that was it I did not have any more pain or problems. Turned out to be a benighn node on my thyroid which is pretty common. You just get to take a pill every morning with a glass of water first thing and see an endocrenologist semifreqently. Mine is great.

Hey M., no worries, it will be fine! the scary part is the word biopsy, I was scared for 2 weeks before the biopsy then it happened and i was like what? your done?, it was like getting a piercing just took a little bit longer. I do reccomend taking a couple of ibuprofens before you go in it will make it hurt less(not that it hurts much at all) and it will also calm you down. and after words you shouldn't have too much to worry about, just keep it clean and dry and it will get better( cleaning it with sea salt and water helped alot!)
well best wishes hope yo uare well!

I have had numerous fine needle biopsy's of fibrocycstic breast tissue. My breast tissue is very dense, and frequently I develop lumpy areas. The fine needle can aspirate fluid to be tested for cancer cells. Much, much better...25 years ago I had to have surgery and the lumpy tissue removed. The technology today is so much better....with ultrasound and fine needle biopsy. It's all done in the doctor's office. Yes, it can be uncomfortable, but the discomfort is only for the time of the procedure and you are sore a few hours afterwards.
