Needing Dietician/Nutrionist

Well ladies I got quite a shock this week. My DH took our son to the Doctor and called me while he was there and said "Um my BP is up, and they are doing an EKG, oh and boy has a sinus infection" So I flew out the door with the girls in tow, we had just got home from school.

He is on Altrace now 1x daily. The Dr said he didn't see anything on the EKG but to be proactive and safe he was sending us to a cardiologist next week. There are also other health problems-Obesity, border line diabetic, low testastarone, anxiety-yeah he's kind of falling apart. The low hormones can account for the weight and inability to loose it, but not all of it.

So now I am being proactive and do not want to take this sitting down. I am in need of a family Nurtitionist. One that would accept insurance would be wonderful, but I have no problem paying for it. I also see this as reinventing our family lifestyle and making sure that children make healthy choices as well.

If you know of one I would love to hear from you.

What can I do next?

Usually, for a nutritionist to be covered by insurance (depending on your insurance), you have to get a doctor's referral. Your husband's regular doctor or the cardiologist should be able to refer him. The good news is, once he's lost even just 10 pounds, he'll notice a difference (and so will his test results). My father has been type 2 diabetic for over 10 years, and his weight & stress fluctuates frequently, but his diabetes almost always gets under control if he just loses a little bit of weight. And, it's great to make it a family affair.

Christy Arnold at Lifetime Fitness in Flower Mound. She's great, but she's so popular you might not be able to get on her list.

Hello S.,

talk to Dennis at the Flower Mound Pharmacy (on Cross Timbers between Tom Thumb and Walgreens) He can help you with supplements.

also you can talk w/ person at the supplements counter at sprouts and at whole foods.

Have you thought about getting chiropractic treatment. if the neck and spine are aligned, then the message from the brain gets to the organs clearly...it's like an information highway flowing from our brains through our neck and spinal column.

make sure he's getting enough magnesium and vitamin D (along w/ calcium, potassium) at sprouts or whole foods you can get the book SMART MEDICINE FOR A HEALTHIER LIFE and look up high blood pressure and it will have more information like dietary guidelines, herbal supplements, etc. Good luck!

Hi S.,

I'm glad to hear that you are being proactive to make changes for a healthier lifestyle for your family. Awesome!!!

Stress can be a major cause of many issues. According to the American Medical Association, 80% of all illness comes from stress. A June '99 Newsweek article titled "Stress" states that "A whole new body of research shows the damage stress wreaks on the body: not just heart disease and ulcers, but loss of memory, diminished immune function, and even a particular type of obesity".

I highly recommend an incredible book titled Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief by Winston and Maimes. It is fascinating. From the book "There is a category of herbs called adaptogens that help the human body adapt to stress, support normal metabolic processes, and restore balance. They increase the body's resistance to physical, biological, emotional, and environmental stressors and promote normal physiologic function".

The 10 most potent adaptogens on the earth, with the highest therapeutic properties available, are now delievered in a fast acting oral spray, called Tunguska Mist. Go to www.TunguskaMistNow.com to learn more.

My husband and I have been taking adaptogens for a while, and they've made a huge difference for our health and our family.

I also recommend a wonderful nutritionist who works out of a Chiropractor's office in NRH a couple of days a week. Contact Alicia Jones @ ###-###-#### or send an email to ____@____.com She's an answer to your prayers!

Good luck and God Bless:)

Best regards,
N.
