Okay I am now 10 weeks pregnant with my third child and almost have a handle on the morning sickness all day long. Now I am having problems with constipation. ugh!
is there anything that will help. I'm trying my best to keep drinking things but it seems I'm not winning at that with the nausea either. I can drink slushies or a sprite and not be nauseas. But the constipation thing has come up twice now. Last time I flooded myself with apple juice an dit helped but not totally.

Any ideas!
thanks!

I don't know if you can handle it with the morning sickness, but there's a great cereal from Kashi called Autumn Wheat - available at the grocery store. It's like mini-wheats lightly flavored with honey. Delicious and high in fiber. Very good for regularity :)

i would try colace - get the generic kind - it's a stool softener and not really "absorbed" into the system. tons of fluids, cut out the carbonated ones. if the constipation gets really out of hand, ask your OB if he/she would be willing to put you on reglan, it kind of "speeds up" the digestion rate, pushing things through you a little faster. i have struggled with SEVERE morning sickness and constipation in all of my pregnancies, so i know how you feel. colace, fluids, then move on to reglan if your OB will write it for you. good luck! oh, another thing, walk walk walk - moving around will "move things through" as well.

Hi,
My name is S.. I had the same problem with my third child. My doctor had me eating lots of fruits - grapes, prunes, etc... Make sure you are drinking enough water. And if all that is not helping ask the doctor if you can take something. Always ask your doctor.

I always had this problem with all 3 of my pregnancies and my doctor always suggested using Peri-Colace and it is at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS etc. It is on the same aisle as laxatives but it is safe to take as a pregnant woman-it is a stool softner, not a laxative. HTH

I had the same problem as you, and I noticed that when I was stopped up that my nausea was worse. I started out with Benefiber added to a glass of water every morning and that was okay but it was a PITA when I had to travel. So I started taking a colace every day and it helped a lot. BTW, I am mortally afraid of laxatives, this stuff does not work you over, it just gets things moving along.

Good luck!

you could try taking Colace, it's available over the counter. BUT, of course, ask your doctor first! As for the nausea, I always drank room temperature ginger ale and it did wonders for me.

Prunes helped me when I was constipated. Make sure when you buy them that you aren't buying the ones that are individually wrapped. They have added sugar. You can eat them by the handfull, but stewing them will help you faster. Put some prunes in a pan, cover with water, bring to a boil, remove from fire, let them cool down in the water. Enjoy!!!
