Need Vacuum Recommendations

I am finally tired of changing the belt in my vacuum every couple of weeks. We have had this vacuum for about 6 or 7 years. It works ok but I'd like to upgrade. We have a good-sized area to vacuum so I'd like something that is pretty wide. It is also important that it is bagless & powerful. We have indoor dogs and I don't want to have to go over the carpet 2-3 times just to get the junk up! I'm not opposed to paying for quality if it means I won't have to worry about getting another vacuum for at least 10 years or so! Recommendations please!

Edit***We will probably end up going with a Dyson. For those of you who have a Dyson, please let me know what model you have!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I bit the bullet and got a Dyson. I got a DC17 Animal. It was an investment to say the least but hopefully it will last a long, long time. Thanks so much for your thoughts and advice!

I have the Dyson- DC07. It cost about 400.00. We also have two dogs that shed BAD! Its amazing how much dog hair this picks up. I have heard that the Dysom Animal is great-(its designed for dog hair) but it is almost 600.00. The main diff in mine and the more expensive ones is that the DC07 only comes with a couple of attachments, the higher priced models come with many more. But, I have not found anything that I cant do with my vac. I bought mine at Lowes- they seem to be about the cheapest (and my husband manages one-LOL) but if you check the Sunday paper for the 20% Bed Bath and Beyond coupons, Lowes will honor that coupon- which will save you quite a bit. They are definately worth the money!

We actually splurged an bought a Dyson a couple of years ago. We got it on www.overstock.com It's great because it works on hardwood and ceramic too. It's fairly lightweight I think. My mom has some type of a bagless Hoover and it weighs a ton!

We have the bagged Hoover and a Dyson. I would go with the Dyson as it is so much more versatile. The Hoover is extremely heavy and gets clogged up with carpet fibers so much easier. It is really difficult to clean out the clogged carpet fibers from the hoses too. The Dyson is the new one and I have only used a couple of times but really like it. I don't know if it came in a wider sweeper variety or not. Check it out on FactoryDirectSuperstore.com. It is the DC24 The Ball. My husband and daughter have severe allergies and asthma which made us switch to the Dyson based upon a recommendation from both of their doctors. Good luck.
