Summer for a 12 and 10 Year Old - Leave Them Home Alone?

So my friend has 2 kids - a 12 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. As a family, they take two weeks off during the summer. For the other 6 plus weeks, she plans to leave them home alone while she and her husbad work 9-5 Monday - Friday. There are camps they can send them to that are not expensive (money is not an issue). They will likely go to a one week camp (for sports) for a week or two but that's it. Would you leave you 12 and 10 year old at home for 4+ weeks over the summer? I think they are insane. What's Everyone Doing to save Money

I'm wondering what everyone's doing to save money. Tips on going grocery shopping, what are you cutting back on. I want to see if how else I would be able to save money. Times are tough......... I pay about $140 for cable, internet and phone through Comcast. Am I paying too much??? Thank you all in advance for any input.

What Pet Should We Get?

My husband and I are discussing getting a family pet. He wants an indoor cat or a small dog. I would prefer a sometimes indoor mostly outdoor dog because my son loves to be outdoors. We have a sixteen month old little boy who can be quite rough while playing so I'm thinking a bigger dog would be better so he doesn't accidentally hurt it. Family Vacation Ideas

We have never taken a family vacation. We would like to this year. Our kids are Boy 10, Girl 6 and Boy 2. What are your favorite spots? We aer open to flying or driving. We are centrally located (KS) so any tips you could provide, things that did or didn't work for you. If we fly, what did you do about a car seat for the rental when you got there? Thanks!
