Dear A.,
First of all, welcome to Chicago. Many people like our church. It is Catholic, but a friend I met recently was pleased that although she is not Catholic, she is not pressured into anything but is welcomed and participates in many programs/activities. It is a beautiful not too big church on the north side at 5545 N. Paulina, St. Gregory the Great Church. I have been in the parish choir for many years. If music is something you like, I'd say we are among the best parish choir around. We sing every Sunday at the 10:30 AM Mass. There is also a Saturday 4:30 PM and a Sunday 8:30 AM. During the other two Masses, only the cantor sings with the piano or organ; I am one of the cantors. That means we lead the music. We don't have a children's program any more. We had an elementary school which my sons attended, but it closed about 8 years ago when my youngest graduated from elementary school. There is a parking lot behind the church in the courtyard. I believe our web site is
stgregory.net
or you can get to the parish site by going to the choir web site
stgregorychoir.net
Do check us out. The lady I met the other day said when she first entered our place, "It felt like a great big hug." If you do come, please look for me; everyone knows me as I am blind and have a beautiful little guide dog. (I think they like the dog! :))
Best of luck on your search.
Oh, yes,we have a Thanksgiving Mass at 10:30 this Thursday. Our youth choir is participating with the parish choir, and I am the cantor.
