Hello. My husband has been recently transferred to Kansas City, and we are looking for a Catholic church where we will feel at home. We like to be active in the parish, and would like to find one willing to welcome newcomers. We are traditional and conservative. I do not yet know the neighborhood, just that it will likely be Johnson County. Thanks for your help!!

It depends on where you will live. If it's Olathe, there are two Catholic churches you may want to check out. It's Prince of Peace Catholic Church just off 143rd Street and Mur Len which is east of I-35. The other is St. Paul's Catholic Church on Larkspur Avenue near K-7 on the west side of I-35.

Try Cure of Ars Catholic Church at 93rd and Mission Rd. in Prairie Village, KS (within Johnson County).

Good luck with your move to KC. You'll find people are friendly and neighborly.

BTW--I have a 5 bedroom 2 1/2 bath home for sale at 9725 Mission that has 2 BR downstairs and 3 BR upstairs, so everyone will have room when they come to visit from CO! We did a ton of work to the house and redid the main bath with heated marble floors, handmade cherry cabinets and even a triple head shower! It's really a pretty home.

I LOVED Queen of the Holy Rosary at 71st & Metcalf when we lived in that area. Even after we moved, my kids & I continued to go for quite some time. Small and welcoming! Good luck and God Bless you and your family!

I don't know how far you are from south Kansas City but Belton is a suburb south of Kansas City in Missouri and St Sabina Catholic church is great. I don't go there but have a lot of friends that do and we go to Belton Assembly of God which is pentecostal but are involved in an outreach program for the community and a lot of the local churches get involved in it and work together so we work along side often with several ladies from the Catholic church as well as the other churches in our community. It is awesome to meet other brothers and sisters in Christ no matter what their denomination and work together and know that we all are God's children.

Belton is located on Hwy 71 south of Kansas City. You can also take Holmes Road from 435 and head south. St Sabinas is on Hwy 58. If you take holmes road, you will turn left at the Stop Sign (hwy 58) Go through 2 round-a-bouts, take a left at 2nd round-about (Cleveland Road) then left on Trevis Ave and goes to the church parking lot. You are also welcome to visit our church anytime as well. Belton Assembly of God is located on North Ave. Take 71 South, go to 163rd street exit. Turn right off of exit. go approx 1 mile. take a left at the light where Quik Trip is. the church is next to O'Reilly's on the right.

God Bless you and follow where he leads you.

There is a wonderful parish at 143rd and Nall called St. Michael the Archangel. They are great with new members. Every week between 9:00 and 10:30 mass is a time where new parishoners can register with the church, meet the preists, and learn a bit about the church and its workings. There are tons of opportunities for volunteering as well.

Hello. We attend St Agnes Catholic Church in Roeland Park. It is a little smaller parish in an older community with a very diverse population. We enjoy it because it serves many different populations, from singles to young families to older couples all with varying socioeconomic statuses. We are also more on the traditional and conservative side and enjoy the masses and music. They have a perpetual adoration chapel and a very active community which includes a parish school. Hope this helps you out.

L.,

I am not Catholic, but our former neighbors were and the wife particularly was very involved in their church activities. They attended the Cure of Ars church and eventually moved from our neighborhood to a home closer to the church.

Hi and welcome.
I grew up at St. Agnes in Roeland Park..baptized, confirmation and married there. The parish has changed a bit and I am not as crazy as I was about it for over 20 yrs. The most awesome priest moved from there to Queen of Holy Rosary on Metcalf that someone else mentioned. He is worth the move. His name is Fr. Cullen. He is the most incredible and personable priest! Several of our friends and a few family members go to Cure or Ars at 95th & Mission Rd. They really love it.

Good Luck.

J.

PS - we live in MO now so belong to a different parish. Let me know if you need suggestions for that.

Hi L.,

I am not Catholic but have lived here my whole life. Depending on where you are, Church of the Nativity is at 119th and Mission Road. There is also St. Michael's the Archangel at about 143rd and Nall. I really don't know dynamics of the church family.

Welcome to KC!!

We have been members of Prince of Peace in Olathe for about 10 years now and have loved it. It is a big, family oriented church with tons of ministries to be involved in. When we joined we were newly married. Now we have 3 children and have grown and evolved with the church. They welcome new members with open arms. They have coffee and donuts (and bagels for those who want to be healthier) after every 9:00 and 10:30 mass and that's a great time to meet new people. Masses are at 5:00 on Sat. and at 7:30, 9, 10:30 12 and 5 pm on Sunday. It is located at 143rd between Blackbob and Mur-Len in Olathe.

This is a great diocese though and any of them are great.

Welcome to KC!

Welcome! Looks like you have received a lot of direction, but we just love St. Michael the Archangel. We actually live inside another parish boundry, but wanted a church that was smaller and more intimate. SMA is a newer parish and the people are great. We are in the process of building a new church, which is always a great opportunity to come in and really feel like the parish is your own. There are also a ton of volunteer opportunities. You can volunteer through the school, liturgical ministries, and even Bunko. Good luck in finding the parish right for you!
