Need Some Good Info!!

Before I get started just want to let you know that sorry for the TMI factor. But I need some info and I am so tired of going to the doc. I am 25 years old happily married to the LOVE of my life and I have two kids 10 and 5. I have had to have the cryo (freezing) procedure done about a year ago because of cancer cells, and I go every few months for repeat paps. The last time I went the test came back with abnormal cells again so I will go back in June for another repeat pap. I was on BC (nuva ring) for two months and this was the first month that I have been off of it, because of NASTY mood swings. Well here is where I need some help. The first day of my last period was March 2 2009, well this morning I went to the potty and found that I had "started" it was dark brown and clotted very thick. This is only the 19th of March and way too soon to start. I am hoping that someone can tell me something. I am so tired of going to the OB/GYN, and I don’t even want to call if this is normal. If you have any info please I am open to advice. Thank you and May God bless you.

What can I do next?

i would call your doctors office...i know that may not be what you want to hear. i do know from past experience with BC after you stop it will cause you within a week or so to start a cycle...the dark red is old blood that was left over from last cycle. You should start seeing "normal" blood soon. The clotting...hmm...not sure that i would call the doctor about.

i took the depo shot a while ago and it took me 2 years to even have a period. I DO NOT reccommend getting that. I now have the Merina and I LOVE IT...no problems what so ever with it other than i am iritable right before i have an extremely light cycle. Good luck and keep us posted

I had that happen when I have stopped birth control before. It usually only lasted 2-3 days and then stopped. It might just be because your body is trying to regulate it's self after being on birth control. If it's dark brown it doesn't mean that something is wrong, only that it isn't fresh and active (that's what I have been told). If it doesn't hurt and you don't feel like it is a large amount and a heavy flow I would wait a few days. You could always call the advice nurse like others have suggested since that would save you a trip in and you could get some piece of mind.

A., very normal after nuva ring. You will also start earlier since your body thinks its time.

I hate going to the dr as well and also sick of it! But I would still call and talk to the nurse and tell her that u are not hurting ( if you are then tell them) and u just want to know if u should wait a day or two to see if it gets better or do u need to schedule appt now. My theory is " u only have one body, take care of it!" Even if the dr says its normal, u will sleep better at night. Blessing right back at you!

I would call the doctor to make sure but I do know that your cycle can get out of whack for a while after gettin off of BC. Were you on any other type of pill or anything before the Nuva Ring? Two months doesn't sound like long enough to have that kind of effect but I could be wrong, that's why I'd check with the doctor.

I would say that it is completely normal for your period to be extremely messed up for a couple months after coming off birth control (this is why drs often say to wait 2-3 months before trying to get preg.). It takes awhile for the body to get back to regulating itself. This may just last a day or two - if it continues call the OB.

Dear A.,
I too have been kinda experiancing what you are going thru right now, except I was on the depo shot and was not having any periods I was suposto get a shot in December and decided against it because I had major weight gain due to the shot so I chose to try and get my period regular again and try something else (thanks to your message it's not gonna be the nuva-ring , after all who needs mood swings). But like I said I was suposto get my shot in Dec and didnt well it took me till Feb to have a period and after I started I would bleed for 4 days have 3 off and than start bleeding again (way out of the norm for me) I think and have heard this before from others when you use a hormonal birth control method and than quit it takes some time to get regular again, I have been going back and forth with spotting and light to heavey periods now for about a month and a half and still aint regular hang in there your body will straighten it's self out.
