My 6 month old son will not sleep through the night. He is usually up every 3-4 hours. He doesn't want to eat when he wakes up so it is not from being hungry. He does not take a nap during the day either. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to sleep at night?

What can I do next?

My daughter was doing that as well, though she had been sleeping through the night and all of a sudden she would wake up every 4 hours. It turned out to be gas. I would give her Mylicon and the next night she was fine. I have also read that if they are starting learning a new phase, such as sitting up or rolling over, etc... that they will do this in their sleep and wake themselves up.

I think he needs a nap. He is probably too tired! My 14 month old takes 2 naps during the day. Babies need a lot of sleep. Try a nap and see if that helps.

If he isn't taking a nap during the day, it could be that he is to tired. Keep track of how many hours of sleep he is getting and see if it is enough. It doesn't make sense to me, but the less sleep they get, the harder it is for them to sleep!
My little one did something similar. About that time we went through a little over a month of her waking up every couple of hours! We never did figure out what the reason for it was, and after that time she started only waking up twice a night. It was such a relief from every few hours I was fine with it.
Good luck and I hope you get some sleep!

Could it be teething? That's what it sounds like to me. You might want to try some motrin, either just before bed, or when he wakes. This too will pass!

Hey, I don't know if you have heard this already or what, but if the little one's don't sleep well/at all during the day, the same goes for the night time!! Try putting him down for a morning and/or afternoon nap. When/if he starts napping, he will probably sleep better at night. My son was doing that too, and then they told me at his daycare that he didn't nap during the day there. They get overtired, which doesn't make sense, but that's probably it!! Good Luck!

Whoa, a six month old that does not sleep during the day. He needs to nap, he's too little not to.

First, get him in a routine, if you don't have him on one. He should be eating breakfast, snack, nap (around 9:30)this nap shouldn't be for a long period of time, just a power nap.
*try putting him in his swing in a low light area where you can check on him without him seeing you. Or put him in his playpen in a low light area, put a Baby Einstein movie on a relaxing one, not a stimulating one.
When he wakes it should be mealtime (lunch), playtime, nap (this nap should be the longest), when he wakes snacktime, playtime, Supper, bath between 6 and 7. Baths tend to either relax them or wake them up. If you do baths between these times it gives them time to wind down. Once out of tub, rub down with baby lotion to relax them and then it's playtime after your finish dressing, etc. Before bed give one more bottle with 4-6 ounces milk and this will tide him over for the night. If he wakes in the middle of the night, go and retuck him, give him his cuddly bear, etc., don't pick him up unless he's really throwing a fit, little talking if any and softly. Then go back to your bedroom. No matter how many times he wakes do the same thing. He will realize that your not going to pick him up eventually and drift off to sleep. He may be one that needs noise to sleep, try a noise maker, or he may need quiet, or he may need extra cushion in his crib, just make sure it's cushioned under the mattress to prevent suffocation. STICK TO YOUR ROUTINE!!! Now is the time your setting routine, because when he gets older he will need it.

It may take a little while to get him in this routine but after a time he will get used to it.

Good luck.

Maybe he is overtired. Shouldn't he be napping twice a day still? The more he sleeps, the more he will sleep, whether it's at nite or during the day. Sometimes laying my daughter down earlier at nite helps her sleep better, and she typically will not wake any earlier. Also we have a pretty long routine before bed, so she is ready and willing to lay down when the time comes. If he is not wanting to nap during the day, maybe a routine and darker room after a snack will help him learn it's time for a nap. That's a tough one, though.
Good luck!
