Need New Breast pump...any Recommendations?

I just had my baby and realized I need a new pump (mine is older and just not performing how it used to. For certain reasons, I exclusively pump so I want a good one that I can also use on the go). I currently have a Medela and was thinking about getting another pump in style but I've also read good things about the Hygeia. Any suggestions about these (or other pumps) would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

I've had to exclusively pump with both of my kids too, but I used the Medela pump in style. I had to get a new one with my 2nd baby because the diaphram (?) on the front, underneath the face plate had a hole in it. I used my first one about 19 months and my second one I'm still using but it's lasted 15 month so far. With both I was pumping up to 8x per day. My husband also bought me a Targus plug adapter so I could pump in the car.

The Playtex dual breast pump was awesome! I was able to pump in my car or in my office without others noticing because it had a nice discreet bag plus I was able to pump directly into the bags if I chose to :)a

My pump just died yesterday (while at work!) and I asked my sister what she recommended (she's a WIC BF counselor and LLL leader). She said that she would recommend a Hygeia pump over the Medela. Of course, I was in a bind and needed something right away and the only pumps I could get locally were Medelas. If I had a week or so to wait for one to ship, I certainly would have taken her advice.

I had the PIS, although if I were to do it again, I'd consider the new Medela that is so much smaller (it is the Freestyle?).

That said, make sure your PIS is really the problem. Have you replaced all the tubing and valves? Take the face plate off and wipe it down? Made sure the bottles you are pumping into are making a good seal? You might even give Medela a call to ask for ideas. I don't know how old your pump is, but mine was heavily used through 3 babies (pumped for a full year each baby), and was still working last time I heard. I think it would be pretty unusual for the pump to be bad, it's more likely the plasticware.

I was always very happy with the Medela Pump In Style.

The other one I remember reading good reviews for back when I was shopping for one (2007) was the Ameda Purely Yours. Never tried it though.

Loved my Medela, including two different models. Had a TERRIBLE experience with Ameda, I would definitely avoid that brand. The motor quit after about 3 weeks of use, they sent a replacement and that one crapped out after 6 weeks. Not worth the hassle to save the $100. I had a Medela where I was the third user, I used it multiple times a day, 5-6 days a week for 18 months and more with no issues. I rented a different Medela on vacation a couple of times and that model worked well for me, though I can't say anything about their longevity other than they were rentals and worked fine!

I would try replacing all the replaceable stuff and make sure that nothing on the pump itself is askew. There's something on the front that can cause loss of suction if not properly installed.

I liked my PISA. I have not heard anything about Hygeia.
