I have been trying to decide if I want to get on the birth control Mirena. I don't like bc pills because I forget to take them and I tend to get really hungry all the time on them and I'm trying to lose weight. I have tried the patch, did't like it, and I don't want to do Depo either. Anyone out there have info on Mirena or experiences?

What can I do next?

I've been on Mirena for a year now, and I love it!! My periods are very light and very short. My hormones are great and I've had no weight gain at all!! It was a little uncomfortable getting it placed, however totally worth it. Best part is you don't have to worry about it at all, for 5 years, I love it. Hope this helps.

Our bodies are made to have a menstrual cycle for the purpose of flushing to cleanse. I would be concerned about the long term side effects of preventing your body from doing what God created it to do. Sounds scary. Next they will come up with a pill to prevent you from having to urinate or have a BM. YIKES! LOL!! ...on a serious note, and we wonder why disease and cancer are so prevalent today. Please don't take what I am saying as a negative aimed toward you, just a thought to consider. I hope you can find some way to safely take care of your needs. Good luck and God Bless!

I've had one for about 3.5 years now and I love it so much. My sister and sister-in-law have also gotten it after they saw how great it is. I had some fairly prominent spotting for the first 3-4 months but since then I get like a 6 hour spotting period once every 2-3 months. Other than that I've had no side effects whatsoever.

After I had my oldest son, I went on the nuvaring, I really liked it because It stay in for the month and then you take it out for a week and put a new on in. so I would say this was the best birth control there is.

Hi L.. I have the Mirena and absolutely love it!! I would recommend it to anyone. You never have to worry about it and the best part is that I got it in June and had my last period in August, no spotting or anything since. At first that was a little scary since everytime I have been late I was pregnant but I got used to it and now love it!

Hi L.. I have the Mirena, and have had it for 15 months. I absolutely love it. I love that I never have to worry about birth control, and I love that my periods are very very light (about 36 hours of extremely light spotting).

The installation was uncomfortable, and I had some spotting for about 3 weeks after it was put in, but from that point onward, I have never had a problem with it.

I had used the bc pill and the diaphragm in the past (and condoms before I was married). This is, by far, the best birth control option out there (for women who have had children).

Good luck with your decision!

J.

L.,
I've used Mirena after each of my kids and I LOVE IT! I have never wanted anything to do with the side effects of being on the pill and messing with my body's system like that, so I decided to go with the IUD. My understanding is that the hormones it releases are pretty much confined to your uterus, so they aren't running through your whole body messing with weight issues or emotions. I love not having to think about it and knowing it is so dependable. Plus I've gone from a normally heavy, crampy week-long period to a total of about a day of spotting when I have the IUD. Easy to have put in, easy to have removed, the ability to get pregnant again right away when you're ready, and if you don't want to- you don't have to think about it for five years!! If you can't tell... I highly recommend it!

I am on it and I love it. Initially, it was a little painful to get inserted and there was cramping the day of, but ever since, I have had no more problems. Its great never to worry about it, knowing it has the highest effective rate and I never have to remember a pill or anything.
It can be a little pricy, but insurance should cover most of it, plus it is worth it in the end. Think of all the months of the pill you would not be buying.
good Luck

I am on the Nuva Ring and I love it. You put the ring in and leave it in for 3 weeks then you take it out for a week and have your period. You can't feel it and my husband can't feel it in me.
Best bc I have ever been on. I too forget to take the pill so that doesn't work for me.

I finally did it after our youngest was born in May of last year, and I love it, love it, love it. I have had very negative experiences with other birth control methods, particularly the pill and Depo, and Mirena is wonderful for me. I have not had any effect on my effort to lose weight, either -- I went on weight watchers and started running, and have lost 30 pounds slowly and steadily over the last 7 months.

I'm a big fan, and would recommend it highly!

I have been on Mirena for about 9 months now and I love it. There is no remembering to take pills, no going to the doctor for shots. I have had no problems with it so far and it is just as effective as any other type of birth control. It is a simple procedure to have it inserted and there is no pain during or after. I would strongly recomend it to anyone who is thinking about birthcontrol. Another good thing about it is if you do decide to have another child it can easily be taken out and you can get pregant within one month of it being out no matter how long you have had it in.

I have had an IUD for the past year and a half, and it has been great. There's two types of IUDs, one with hormones and one without--I'm not sure which kind Mirena is. I have the kind without hormones because I have had problems on the pill before and just didn't want to mess with my hormones getting out of whack again. It has no side effects except for a heavier period, and most of the time, I don't even realize it's there. It can stay in place for several years, and is very effective.

I was interested in Mirena too I just haven't decided to do it or not yet. I tried the birth control pills but they may my periods longer even seasonale which is supposed to stop your periods or make u have 1 every few months. I have never done depo nor do I want to. Check with your doctor because that is where I found out info about it to begin with and maybe your doctor can help you choose the right thing.
