My son has been a side sleeper since birth. He's always been an excellent sleeper. Lately at night he has been flipping over onto his back and he gets extremely angry. I go in and put him back on his side and he inevitably gets back on his back and starts crying. I have him in a sleep wedge but he STILL manages to get onto his back. For the past 2 nights I have gone in his room less to flip him and he will cry for over an hour. It hurts my heart, but I am exhausted. He is unable to flip onto his side yet, but weve been practicing during tummy time. What do I do? Do I take out the wedge and put him on his back to begin with and just prepare for some crying? He's a big baby and eats PLENTY during the day and he does not need to eat during the night. I'm exhausted, frustrated and trying to take care of a 3 year old at the same time. I cried it out with my daughter at this age and she transitioned great and has always been an excellent sleeper since. Help!

What can I do next?

does he like to sleep on his tummy? Maybe that will help him stay comfy at night

Since being on his back bugs him it sounds like he is still a candidate for being swaddled. Mine always tummy slept, but I guess they've decided that's dangerous or something. Just keep exercising him and helping him learn to turn during the day while you play with him... he'll figure it out pretty soon.

Please check with a chirpractor b/c he may seem to have a need to be adjusted. Also, ask your pediatrician for insight. Best wishes, S.

He's amost old enough to start turning to where he wants to sleep, back, side, tummy, etc.... He willsoon show a preference to position. I think working with him to teach him how to tur over is a very good job, keep working and he'll eventually get the hang of it.

If he is not developementally making an independent sleep decision by 4 months of age there is a problem in his gross motor skills. He should absolutley be getting to his side, back, stomach at his own will by 5 months for sure!@ Take him for an OT evaluation becuase delayed at this age will always be a delay. Do not allow him to get more delayed.
