My twins call my mom "Bobbie". She loves it and they can say it. My dad came up with "Banana" because his wife wanted to be "nana" and he thought they should match. Sometimes kids will just come up with their own names. Good luck!
looks like you have lots to choose from... i saw most of my suggestions already listed; however i didn't read all the way down. i married into grandmahood... but i'm not even 30 yet! my grandkids call me GiGi...
My girls have an "extra" set of grandparents (some close family friends), and they wanted to be called "Yaya" and "Papo". I *think* these are Greek in origin---not sure but we think it's cute! :)
My husband's mom wanted a more youthful name. She chose to be called "Mimi." My mom, on the other hand acts older than she really is; she chose "Nana." Both grandpas were named by our daughter. She calls them "PopPop A." and "PopPop G." except that the initials are only used when talking about one or the other of them. When addressing them personally, they're both just "PopPop"
I felt the same way about the old fashioned & unoriginal "grandma and grandpa" My kids called my mom Nonnie and my dad Pop-Pop.
Personally, I think "Grandma" needs to decide what she wants to be called. At least in my family this is what happened. My moms mom and my dads mom wanted to be "Grandmother" and thats what we call her. I remember she would definately correct us if we tried to call her something else. I don't really understand "fun and youthful"....no offense. A grandma, grandmother, nana, mammaw, etc... is just what it is not an indication of age.
Talk to her and see what she wants. I have friends that have made up things and it has ended up really confusing for their kids, so if you do use something other than a traditional name just make sure it is not something crazy like "Nunu" or "GoGo" (No, I didn't make this up!)...does that make sense?
how about MIMI or MEME,I have an aunt that is called that by her grandkids. Also,I have another aunt that went by "Mama _____"(her first name). And I have yet another aunt that went by "Bub"to her grankids.Just a few ideas...my kids call their grandmas NaNa,Grandma and Mamaw.Good luck!!
My daughter calls my mom Meme and my Dad PaPa. I have also heard some kids call there grandma GiGi and Gramere.
My mother's name is Denise, so we let my son call her Necee. What's your mother's actual name...what kind of a unique name can you make of it???
My oldest daughter calls my MIL NENE, she could not say grandma and came up with it all on her own. Now she is four and still uses its. My MIL likes it well because she is young only (42). Now she calls all her other Grandmas either Nana or grandma and great grandma is G-G-Maw. As for granpas she calls all of the poppa. My youngest can not talk yet but i am sure when she can this is what she will call them. Hope this helps.
I like 'Gigi'~~I don't think that sounds old at all!!!! I think it is very fun and spunky!!!!
My parents are called...Grandmama and Grandpapa, kids love to say them, they stretch it out. My MIL who did NOT want to be called Grandma came up with CiCi...it really seems to work. FIL is PawPaw. Hope you find what works that your son can pronounce. Sometimes it is fun to hear them come up with one. Best Wishes.
Ive heard people call their grandma MIMI
I have a good friend whose grandkids call her Honey. I thought that was "sweet", ya know? I may have my grandkids call me that one day. (you said you wanted it youthful, well this friend stopped her age at 39, and believe me, she is now waaay past that but it's her little joke she does.)
My kids just call them mom and dad. They call me momma. I like "poppy" and "nay-nay". Hope this helps!!
Allison, I called both my sets of grandparents..."grandma/grandpa Coopwood" and the other "grandma/grandpa Rodriguez" Looking back, it was really good for me to realize my heritage and where I came from. Of course, as a kid, I really didnt think about that. Now that I am grown, my kids call my parents, "nanny and pappy" thier father's parents are called "granny and poco" My son made up poco when he was little because he couldnt pronounce grandpa. My second husband's mother was also called granny by her grand kids, so as a solution we call her (my new mother in law) "granny mable". Anyhoo...It really is the relationship that matters the most.
Hello,
My son started calling my mom "nana", and my mother in law "mimi".
My mother in law tried to get him to keep saying gamma, but he never could, and one day he just started saying mimi!
I don't know if that helps you any, but it's not grandma!
Good Luck to you!

My dad and step-mom could not think of any name that they wanted to be called, so I took the first letter of their last name "K" and added "ma" and "pa" to the end of it. They are now K-maw (pronounced kay-maw) and K-pa. My step-mom is only 34 years old. LOL!! She doesn't feel as though the name K-ma makes her sound old...haha!! Hope this helps.
You could also try Meemaw.
Why not let your child come up with a name on their own. Is it you or the grandparents that have the problem with grandma and grandpa.
My kids call my Mom Mamere'. It is French for grandmother.
You have a wide selection to choose from, but here are a couple more. I know someone who went with Mims & Chief but, our daughter took the first parts of their names Nishia & Pete and came up with Nini (Knee-Knee) & Pe-paw.
I have always called my grandparents, Grandmommie and Happaw!
The kids in my family call my mom grandma, but they call my dad Bonepa...due to our last name! You can always use part of their name and make a spin on it to make it fun!
My kids call their Grandmother... MeeMaw. My mom (Grandma) came up with it. try that... we call Grandpa... Paapaw.
We have used MeMe, Paw, Nona, Big Daddy, Big, Gran, Poppa, Nana, Boots, Naene, Peeps, Bitsy & Shine. Be sure to let everyone know what you choose. I am sure everyone is curious.
My three kids call their grandma mimi, my daughter could not say grandma when she started trying and mimi just came out of her little mouth when she was referring to her grandma so now all five of her grandchildren call her that. mimi sounds young and cool i think..threr are a lot of young ladies even named mimi and it's easy to say. anyway goodluck!

My g-kids call me Me-Me. It works for me!!!

My kids call my mother Grandma, my mother-in-law Nana, and my oldest son started calling my father-in-law Bimpa, so that's what my youngest son calls him, too. They call my Grandmother, their great-grandmother, Grimmy. Other than the names already posted here, I can't think of any. Hope you find your names!
my kiddos call my mom "jojee", and my dad is "pappy".......
We went with Lolly and Pop and Gigi and Papa.....Good luck with the name search.....
My parents are Mema and Grapey (my son can't say grampy!)
My husbands parents are Nana and Beebop ( we stated calling him Peepop as a joke, and our son went with BeeBop.)
MiMi & PawPaw. My mother didn't want to be called MawMaw (sounded old) but my daddy didn't care so they call him pawpaw. :)
My mom's goes by Nonnie. I like it, and the kids like it too. :o)
My aunt is "Queenie" to her grandkids.
My vbest friend came up with her grandmas name, it's Me-mer. Mot sure how you would spell it but that is how it sounds. I agree, let the kiddo come up with the name.
My very youthful and energetic mom worked with my son to see what she should be called and they both came up with Mimi. She liked it because it sounded more fun than grandma and he liked it becuase he could actually say it. His other grandma wanted to be called Gran which took him much longer to be able to say. Both grandpas ended up being Papa.
my cousins kids call their grandma nunu and grandpa granddaddy and another idea is gami and papi i always called mine memee and papa hope those help
Here's something different--my step-father is Grandy.
Or, adding more ideas along the lines of foreign language names meaning grandmother and grandfather--my husband's parents are German so it's Oma and Opa. That may be a little old sounding but an idea for anyone else reading this who may be wanting something different but easy! (So, maybe an adaptation of that in America could be Gma (Geema) and Gpa (Geepa)???) :)
My son calls one set of grandparents Honey and Popi (sounds like pop-e).
well we have a mimi, grammy & grammpy, nana & pops and my husband has a grandmommy......let everyone know what you choose...im curious.
