Need Good Dentist for Big Chicken... LOL

I'm in need of some serious dental work. I've neglected my teeth for far too long and didn't care for them well when I was younger. I haven't been to a dentist in ages and to be honest, I'm very leary (read: scared) of going to one now. My teeth are very sensitive and I'm a big chicken when it comes to letting them do anything that is going to hurt (which I'm sure it will since my mouth is in such bad shape). I do have dental insurance (Delta Dental) so that's not an issue. I can see anyone I want but a dentist on their network would be a little cheaper for me. I need a dentist that is not afraid to use laughing gas or otherwise knock me out or something! Are there any fellow "big chickens" out there that could recommend a dentist that will be gentle and patient with me? (And who will preferably not spend all day lecturing me about how I should have been taking care of my teeth in the past - I know that and I'm trying to fix it now!)

What can I do next?

K., I go to dr. Gemma Dalton. She does sedation as well! I finally went to see a dentist after 15 years! I have major work to be done and the whole staff was great about it! They even have a payment plan if your insurance doesn't cover everything. She's in Bedford but my sister lives in Watauga and goes to her also!

My sister, Dr. Thu Tran, D.D.S., is a dentist in Carollton. Her office is located on the corner of Trinity Mills and Marsh Lane called One Dental. She will give you what you need and for cheap, too. Let me know if you want her contact information. Here's her advice...

The first step is acknowledging you have a lot of work that NEEDS to be done. I do believe dental knowledge will help you make better choices in your treatment options, though, and would be more than happy to educate you on any area you are concerned about. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is a great alternative to helping you get through the door to ease your anxieties. There are also medications that are available to premedicate you prior to your major dental work (i.e. anything that requieres local anesthesia), but require you to have a driver to and from your appointments. For the extremely anxious, there is also another sedative alternative that will allow you to sleep through the procedure. This is a little more costly, since either an anesthesiologist or oral surgeon is asked on site to sedate and monitor you throughout the procedure. You should check with your insurance carrier to see if there is an out of pocket expense for any of these sedation procedures. Hope this helps!

Dr. Darrell Pruitt in East Ft. Worth off of Brentwood Stair is tops. He doesn't do sedation, but he is extremely gentle & very understanding. I hate dentists- long engrained in me after spending so much time w/ one as a kid w/ crummy teeth, but I've been going to Darrell since '96, and refuse to go else where. Insurance is not an issue, good care is!!

shane mason ###-###-#### he is in flowermound.

they are the only dentist i have ever been to that makes you not only fill out the normal forms, but a personal experience with past dentists form on your first visit. this is for them to gauge how big a chicken you really are. they have no issues making you comfortable, even with the routine cleaning. they are great with kids too. (i just brought my 2 year old son for his first visit)

hope this helps!
