My husband and I are adopting a boy from Siberia. On our first visit to the orphanage, we asked the director what supplies we could bring him from the U.S. He asked for thermometers. We would like to bring the orphanage a couple different types - however, we need the instructions translated in Russian as there is no worker at the orphanage that speaks English. If YOU or someone you know can do this for us, we are willing to pay to have it done. Would you please contact me as soon as possible as we are expecting a call to go back to Siberia any day. Thank you so, so much!! You will be helping many children with this service!

What can I do next?

I am from Russia, (part that borders Siberia:)) and would be happy to help (no paying or anything). I hope they actually get to kids. Our church in my hometown worked with many "baby homes" (as we call them:)), donated cribs, and other stuff just to find out that workers sold everything , kept the $$$$ and kids got nothing:(. Hope it will be different with you.

If you don't find someone on here, maybe try contacting your local college. I'm sure they either have an instructor or student who may speak Russian.

Or you can type the instructions into Google translator to translate to Russian, and then copy/paste the Russian into Word, and then print it. Thats what we did with some stuff we are taking to our daughters orphanage in Ukraine. :)

You may also want to contact the manufactorer of the thermometers because they may already have directions prepared in other languages. Good Luck, this is a really nice thing you are doing. Our next door neighbors son is adopted from Russia and he is a really great kid. I wish you all the best.

You've gotten lots of responses... I just wanted to say good for you!!! My friends from Russia (obviously a biased source) say that in their culture one does NOT raise children that aren't family. And the sheer number of psych studies done in Russian orphanages (by US and W Europe med folks) is appalling. (Because most have absolutely no contact with the babies/children except to feed and change them... so the psych community LOVES the opportunity to study the resulting sensory deprivation and bonding issues). I've always thought that if I ever adopted it would ideally be from the former ussr, ever since having to pour through the studies in school. Hugs.
