My husband and I started trying a month ago for #2. I was on birth control for the past few years and officially stopped taking my birth control in July. My last period was on July 13th. My husband and I calculated my fertile days for August in hopes of getting pregnant - with no luck! I however have not gotten my menstrual period this month which I believe is due to my cycle being off from not taking my birth control as I have taken a blood and in home pregnancy test and both were negative. My husband and I want to try again this month but since I did not get my period, how do I calculate when my most fertile days are or when I ovulate? My menstrual cycles when I was on birth control were every 28 days and I could tell I ovulated every 14 days. I have never missed a menstrual period except when I was pregnant with my daughter so I have no idea where to go from here. Do I make an appointment with my OB?

So What Happened?

I appreciate all the comments. I got pregnant with my daughter who is now two years old not even a month after I got off the pill 2.5 years ago and at that time I was also a 28 day cycle and ovulated on the 14th day.

I second MR's advice...everything in there is head on. Also, once you do get your normal cycle back, it can take several months, even if you are a normal fertile woman, to get pregnant. You only have a 30% chance each month of it happening. I was charting and temping and checking my mucous and everything with my first and it still took 3 months.

I also agree with everything M R said. Great advice. I just wanted to add, based on your update, that it's not unusual for your cycle to be different now than it was several years ago. If your period doesn't start within a reasonable time, it may be because you aren't ovulating. There are things a doctor can give you to start your period if it doesn't start within a reasonable time.
Also, you can buy ovulation predictors to test for the hormone surge that occurs right before you ovulate. This can help time intercourse so you have the best chance of conceiving.

hi, good luck with number 2 and i hope you get things figured out. i never took the pill so i really don't have any helpful advice for you.....but it did take me almost a year to conceive my second child and just when i was ready to give up it happened. i know the whole thing is stressful, every month hoping this is the one. but i would say just try and relax and let nature take it's course. stress can cause your body to do lots of unwanted things and also sometimes throws off your cycle.....so try and relax and talk with your ob/gyn. good luck

Tiffany,
I think your OB/GYN would probably advise you to wait a few months after getting off the pill to try getting pregnant. Your body needs to "readjust" so to speak, to ovulating. I am suprised you ovulated on the birth control pill. Usually, that is the whole point of birth control pill...to stop ovulation. I would wait until you have at least, one normal cycle to try. Good Luck!!!

Yes, see your OB now. Relaxation therapy works to help resolve the anxiousness you might have.
