A personal favorite of mine is A
&D ointment. Maybe he is chafing or passing a hard bowel movement??I used the zinc oxide ointment too its just zinc oxide in a thick white petroleum and that was messy but great too!!
The skin around my son's bottom, especially around his anus is red and looks like it is peeling. I've been using balmex on it and it seemed to be doing better. Tonight when i put him in the bathtub he started screaming that it was hurting. I took him out right and dried him off. Is there anything else anyone can recommend. I've already tried vasoline and he cried that it burned. I'm waiting to go to the doctor's office on Monday but i'd like to solve this problem as soon as possible.
Thank you all for the responses. I have started using balmex and that seems to be helping. I've also cut down on the amount of juice that I give him.

F.,
As Kelly mentioned, that type of a rash or ring is typical of an allergic reaction to something in a child's diet. Consider anything that you might have added to his diet within the last week or so.
Hope he feels better.

It could be a fungal issue. Not a big deal. When my son had this issue, we put a little Lotramin Antifungal Cream on the spot and it cleared up in a couple of days. If it seems painful, use a little Neosporin. The Neosporin will also aid the healing and help with pain and itching.
my son gets a red bottom when he is allergic to something new in his diet.
try using baby powder with cornstarch and check with your doctor about him having problems going poop
F.,
I am not sure if this is the same thing but my daughter had some bleeding and redness around her anus. I was treating it with Desitin and A&D ointments. I did finally figure out what was going on with her. Her urine and bowel movements were so acidic from all the fruit and veggies she was eating. Your sons food may be the culprit to his redness. I hope this helps.
Bordeaux Butt Paste cleared my son's red bottom up in day!
well i am not sure if you tried just letting him run freely all naked just let air take it's course you can also try soaking him the bath tub i would personally try all of those things before getting a doc's advise it couls be dry skin due to the weather
The best thing to use for any bottom rash is Vasaline. You will never have any kind of rash again!!
I don't have specific advice to match those symptoms, but have you tried different creams? Aquaphor was the only thing that worked on any rash/redness for my son. Even vaseline didn't do a thing even though it appears to be the same.
I use this wonderful stuff called sudocrem. I usually have to get it from ebay or order it from over seas (England). It works wonders on EVERYTHING! It clears up a rash in one diaper change. It also works for acne and pretty much all other skin issues.
