I have a beautiful 10 month old daughter and I was sooo sick with her entire pregnancy. I was not hungry at all but forced myself to eat even though I would later "lose" it. I only gained 8 pounds total after all the weight loss. This time I have bad sickness again. I am 11w3d pregnant now but things are very different. I am hungry all the time! I am so hungry I feel as if I am starving. Then I sit down to eat and I can't eat more than a few bites of anything. I'm not heavy or anything but I can usually eat like a pro. I love food and I have never been unable to eat like this. My stomach feels full but I am still hungry. And then the naseau bothers me for hours and occasionally I "lose" food but not all the time like before. If I wasn't only 11w I would understand why my stomach can only hold small amounts but I don't understand at this stage in pregnancy. I am so miserable and I feel like I am starving all the time. My doctor wont see me until 14w unless something is really wrong. I guess what I need to know is if anyone else had this starving issue in pregnancy or if there may be something wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated because I don't think I can wait another 2 1/2 weeks to find out if this is normal or not.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies. I'm going to try and wait for the first appointment and not be so worried about this. I actually found that if I put Texas Pete on things I don't trow up and I feel better for a while. Really weird but hey... what works, works... :)

Hi Pam, You have described my pregnancy with my son. My son came out a healthy 8 lb 6 oz baby boy-21 1/2 inches long. Guess what? All he wanted to do was eat, eat, eat-ALL THE TIME! Now he is almost 8 and all he wants to do is EAT!
I wouldn't worry. All pregnancies are different.

I feel your pain and frustration. I lost everytime I got pregnant and really lost when having my twins! The first three months I threw up like crazy! I tried to snack all day long on little things, I felt so hungry but knew if I ate "to much" it would only come back up. The feeling eventually curbs somewhat when the nausea quits. Until then I suggest eating every 30 minutes of a small hand full of crackers, bread, cereal, a pickle (I know haha the whole pickle thing but the vinegar/enzyme thing seemed to help with my nausea)! I wish you the best and Congrats on the new baby! Definitely talk to your OB about it and most offices have it where you can talk to a nurse, call and ask to speak to the nurse with your questions. Hopefully the nurse can ease your mind as well. :)

I know you feel horrible now, but I don't believe there is anything wrong. I think I spent my entire 2 pregnancy throwing up. I must have lived in the bathroom. I was hungry alot but couldn't eat or wouldn't eat because I new I'd get sick again. Hang in there and hopefully it will pass. If it doesn't just try and think of the bundle of joy you will have when it's over.

My pregnancy was the same - threw up the whole nine months. Ensure was the only thing that really worked for me. I never threw that up. Also, a friend suggested vitamin B-6 towards the end of my pregnancy and that REALLY helped me. Also, I've read that cleaning your liver out (milk thistle is one herb that is good for that) also helps. God bless!

I had the exact same symptoms with my first pregnancy ... hungry to the point where I was light-headed and even more nauseous, but when I looked at food, I just couldn't bring myself to eat it. There were things that set me off worse than others, and the occasional (and by occasional, I mean 1 or 2) things that I could tolerate throughout the entire pregnancy. Whatever looks good to you -- no matter how ridiculous -- that's what you need to eat. And I agree with the other response about keeping something small on your stomach at all times. Keep crackers with you at all times. With my second pregnancy, cheese puffs seemed to do the trick. I know -- NOT a great food value -- but that's what the baby wanted so who am I to argue? It kept me from throwing up. Drinking lots of water (over crushed ice) and getting lots of rest also helped. And my OB put me on an anti-nausea pre-natal vitamin too. All these changes really helped with the second pregnancy. You just need to find the combination that's rignt for you too. And definately talk to your OB about it when you go. Best of luck!

There are a few things you can try. Try to eat something before you get out of bed in the morning (ie keep a box of life cereal or crackers by your bed). When you do eat through out the day eat just a few bites at a time. Nibble all day long if you can. Ginger, peppermint, and cinnamon can all be natural stomach relaxers. Try sipping Ginger Ale throughout the day (the real stuff like from Whole Foods etc works best for some moms). Or you can try Ginger Tea and cooking with Ginger. Other ideas are breathe mints/gum that is peppermint or cinnamon flavored. For some reason this seems to help. The big thing is dehydration so try to sip on something all day long. If water makes you sick, as it did me, then try warm tea and honey or ginger ale most (if not all) of the day. When you can sneak some water in. Good Luck. Also sometimes lollipops help to.

I feel your pain! I was hospitalized for dehydration with my first pregnancy because I got so sick... the second one wasn't as bad, but I was still extremely sick. The difference was that I wasn't as hungry with the first pregnancy as I was with the second. The 2nd time, I would go out to eat and order something huge, eat 2-3 bites and my stomach would feel sooo full, but I'd still have that starved feeling... I ended up using nutritional supplement drinks like Boost and Ensure (Walmart brand isn't too bad, it's cheaper) to make sure I was getting enough calories for baby. Maybe it's worth a try for you just to help you feel satisfied... Best of luck to you!

I had morning sickness my entire pregnancy. The doctor couldn't figure out why I had it so bad. The entire time I lost every fluid and every ounce of food I put in my mouth. You can ask them for Zofran. That worked for me for a short time. It's a medicine for cancer patients, safe for pregnant women, for nausea and vomiting, but non drowsy (a plus). I felt like I was so hungry the entire time. It could just be that your body is not used to all the hormones going through your body at the levels they are, at least that's what the doctors told me. They also told me try cantelope and bananas. Also try vitamin B6 and ginger. I know all the home remedies on this one. I also before getting out of bed, chugged a bottle of water and then ran for the toilet to get all the morning acids out. Gross I know, but I felt better in the morning for a little while to where I could function. Stay away from the foods you know makes you sick. Definitely stay away from milk if you hate the taste of it coming up ( I did). I didn't eat eggs or steak. Just keep to what you can tolerate.
