We wash stuffed animals all the time on gentle and then let air dry. We then fluff them up in the dryer on air dry (no heat), or on low temp for just a few minutes. They aren't quite as soft, but they are clean and smell nice again.
Does anyone know any good ways of making stuffed animals smell and look good again? I have used Frebreeze and when it wears off the toys have the same smell again. Most of them say don't wash in the washing machine but has anyone ever tried that? Does it ruin the toy? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks for your help!

Make a solution of two parts distilled water and one part apple cider vinegar and por in a spraty bottle. Mist sufficiently until damp and allow to air dry. When the vinegar solution drys the musty old smell as well as the vinegar smell will be gone. It is also a mild disenfectant.
P.S. Great to mist over second or third day old hair if you don't have time wash, as well as clothing that doesn't need to be washed, but may have a smoke smell from being out.
The washing machine works great. I usually do gentle cycle in a pillow case. Someone once told me that you can freeze them. Put them into a plastic bag and put them in the freezer overnight.
I read somewhere in the past, when you need to wash stuffed animals, put them inside a pillow case, close up the top with a rubberband or something that keeps the case closed and wash it that way, and you can probably dry it for a bit in the case, too. It ususally works pretty well.
I put them in a zippered mesh bag that is normally used for washing pantyhose or other delicates then let them air-dry.
I wash my daughter's stuffed animals in the washing machine with no problem. I wash them in warm water on the regular setting. Make sure that you dry them long enough so they don't get moldy. :-)
