Hi!
I'd highly recommend Costco (maybe even BJ's or Sam's). We got a great price on a full size mattress & boxspring there. Popular brand too. (Sealy - plush). Good luck!

Big Lots, Big Lots, Big Lots! We got our son's twin mattress (sealy) there for like $150. It is so very comfy.

There is a used/new furniture store on Austell Rd close to Milford Church/Windy Hill. I can't remeber the name of it but it's on a corner really close to R&R Recycle. They have the set for about $89.00

Check Craigslist. I just found a twin bed (mattress & box spring) on there for free. It is in Dallas, GA. All you have to do is pick it up.
If this is to far, you should check it daily. There is so much free stuff on there. Right now there is somebody even giving away a free outdoor playhouse in Gwinnett somewhere. It just needs to be picked up.

IKEA! Not only do they have great prices, but I've read that they are much more careful about the materials used. (You know, every now and then you hear something about, say formaldehyde, which was such an issue with the post-Katrina trailers. Or some other thing in our matresses, asbestos in our ceilings, lead in the toys, etc.) Since IKEA wants to sell their furniture in many different countries, they have stricter standards than the U.S. There are other companies that make mattresses from safer materials, but most of the ones I have seen are pricey.

You can shop IKEA online, but if you can go to one of their showroom, the kids will have a great time. There's a supervised play-area where you can drop off potty-trained kids for 45 mins at a time while you shop, and a restaurant in the place, too. My kids enjoy a trip to IKEA better than a trip to the park.

(I don't know where you live, but there's one in downtown Atlanta.)

We got ours at Big Lots. We looked around and it was definitely the least expensive, especially since we needed a box spring too.

Hope this helps!

Rooms to go Kids had the best for the money when we bought ours. They have a fiber that keeps mites away and they are Teflon treated.

C., I agree that IKEA has great prices and higher standards. Many American companies also strive for safety in their products but many are after your dollar ONLY. My most stern advice is to go NEW! And NEW can be dangerous also. Many mattresses are treated with substances that are really harmful to humans – especially our little ones. Teflon, for instance is very dangerous to ingest or absorb into our skin. Buy assurance from the store that it is ALL NEW and SAFE material. Your mattress is one of the most important purchases from the crib to old age so make it a well-thought-out decision. And then use non-toxic products to clean the bedding because we spend so much of our life in those sheets and pillowcases. Whether you know it or not, there are many neurotoxins in most laundry detergents that we wash the bedding in. Then we spend 6-12 hours a day in that environment absorbing those harmful substances into our skin – that largest organ in our body. Do you suppose that has anything to do with so many strange new diseases showing up in our lives today?

NEVER buy a used or rebuilt mattress from someone you don’t know or share the same standards with. Families share bacteria that are friendly but would be harmful to other families. There are too many critters that are harbored in mattresses – dust mites, insect larva, bacteria and other allergens. There are legitimate and licensed companies that actually take mattresses off the side of the road and supposedly clean them and put new covers on them and sell them to used furniture stores. Scary info I know, but better safe than sorry when that surprise illness shows up and you find you could have prevented it with $50 more, isn’t it? Bedroom furniture is fine to sell at garage sales but toss those mattresses to someone who will use the metal and destroy the fiber materials or give to someone who has a real NEED without the resources to buy new.

I would suggest Aaron Rents clearance center in Norcross. They have new or barely used mattresses. I have bought from them and found NEW mattresses for a FRACTION of the cost anywhere else. I put a good mattress cover and save TONS of money. I think the twin mattress was $50/$60.

Have you considered using the crib mattress? Even if you just put it on the floor until your little one is older, that would work.

I got my daughter a Sealy set on clearance for 100 bucks! That was almsot 7yrs ago and now her almost 3yr old brother has had it for a year now and it is still in great shape! So my word of caution is, don't go too cheap either. Stick with a name brand. Also, get one of those mattress protecters from Walmart. It is a huge plastic bag that the mattress gets zipped up into. It will protect it from bugs, dirt and pee accidents. Our twin still looks brand new and it's also moved 4 times to different houses!

Good luck!

We got our mattresses at Sam's club. I don't remember what they cost but it couldn't have been THAT much seeing how penny pinching my DH is.

Big Lots on Hwy 92 sells furniture. I would go with new vs. used just because mattresses can harbor some pretty nasty stuff. If you end up spending a little more than you want, it's probably a good place to indulge -- a good mattress will last him until he leaves home!

Oh, Ikea beds are great too -- and the price is right. Gotta love Ikea!
