Sleepcraft over by Big Lots. Honest, good prices. Advice: spend the money now for a good best with a warranty - don't go cheap it costs more in the long run.
We are in the market to upgrade from our queen-size bed to a new king-size bed. Does anyone have any recommendations for places to shop for mattresses/box springs and headboard/rails? I would also love to hear your feedback on types of mattresses that you love or ones to stay away from. I live in the Lewisville area so any stores around this area would be great. Thanks!

Go vist Marabeth at Dillards in the Vista Ridge mall. She is fabulous and will direct you to the right mattress at the best price!
Weir's has a clearance center upstairs in their store, they ALWAYS have king size headboards, rails and footboards up there. If you are looking for a good deal and are not in a rush, I would say check there every week or so. I am thinking that I have seen a king cherry sleigh bed for like 500??? PRETTY GOOD.
I used to have the # of a guy that sold Hotel Overstocked pillow top mattresses for really inexpensive as well. It certainly isn't top of the line, but we sleep on one and it is fine for us. We are not that big, my dad is 300+ lbs and it would never work for him. If you are interested, email me and I can see what I can find.
Have you checked out IKEA?
Our bed frame collapsed several months ago, and we ended up getting one from IKEA to put our mattress and box springs on. Their mattress systems of very comfortable and relatively inexpensive compared to a traditional set.
We love out sleep number bed. They are expensive but this is just the second mattress we've had to purchase in almost 20 years. They actually are sold now at the Mattress Firm type stores and they have closeouts every now and then. You might call and get some info about when they have these and how much they are. I saw their ads after we bought ours. Also we shopped around for a while and it seems like the same as furniture that the sales are best on holiday weekends. Labor day is coming up! Good luck.
They are expensive but we LOVE our sleep number bed!
I have a Sleep Comfort bed where you can adjust the firmness (10-100) and it is the best sleep I have ever had. It is a little more expensive, but it has been well worth it.
Best part is that each of you can adjust your own side to where it is best for you. This really is good if one of you prefers a firmer mattress and the other prefers a softer mattress.
My husband Kevin Sorrels works in the Furniture Business with Rooms to Go..the largest retailer of furniture in the United States.
He has worked in the furniture and mattress business for close to 20 years. His store has four brands of mattresses and a lot of different Bedrooms groups.
His store is in front of the Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine which is down 121 from Lewisville. I am sure he could take care of your needs. You can call him at the store at ###-###-####. He works Monday and Wednesday from 10am to 6pm and Friday from 1pm to 9pm and Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
I am also a stay at home mom with a 5 year old.
Sincerely,
S. Sorrels
I love my sleep number bed. It is hard to describe if you have never used one but they are wonderful. I was a toss and turn kind of girl (and we had an expensive mattress) until I got the sleep number. They are awesome. If you can hold out until Oct or Nov they have a factory clearance sale where you can get last years models at 60 - 70% of the price but you have to order them online or over the phone. I don't think they offer the sale through the store.
There is a store in the Vista Ridge if you want to test them out. I would suggest one with a pillow top. Good luck.
My hubby & I just purchased a new mattress last month. We love it! We purchased our new mattress at Sleep Experts. We worked with Tammy at the Long Prairie Road store in Flower Mound. Our mattress is a World Class BeautyRest. One thing we liked about Sleep Experts is they treat & give the old mattresses to charities & the sales person was very helpful & no pressure to buy. We went shopping with our 3 kids 10, 4 & 2. The kids took off their shoes & tried out several of the beds too!
We got our King size bed from SAM's Club. I know it might sound crazy to purchase it from a wholesale store it was actually cheaper to get it there. We got our Serta mattres, box springs, and rails for $1000.
We get all of our mattresses from the Heavenly Sleep Shoppe, there's one on Pipeline in Hurst I think it is. I know there's another one but not sure where. They do have a website. Namebrand mattresses in ALL price ranges but far cheaper then anywhere else we've ever looked. We just got m daughter all new furniture and she wanted a piloowtop, the cheapest we found that wasn't a great brand was $250 and we finall went to the Sleep Shoppe and they had a Sealy one for $160!!
We've bought several Sealy's at Sam's for a great deal. We shopped around a lot and found their price to be the best.
Have you tried Weir's Furniture store? They carry a nice assortment of mattresses and box springs. I think this might also be the time that they are on sale since they are switching the 2008 models to 2009. I think it is on a similar schedule to car models. They are also a nice family owned business. There are locations in Plano and Southlake. They aren't opened on Sundays either. We bought a Stearns & Foster mattress and box spring from them and have really loved it. It sleeps very nicely and isn't too difficult to flip or rotate. I wouldn't say it is the cheapest brand but it is a reliable brand that should last 10-15 years with proper care. Good luck.
We had a good family friend who worked in a furniture store. He recommended Simmons as the best mattress (we did not compare with sleep # or tempupedic).
Our King sized Simmons pillow top was $3000 at the furniture store. Through our friend, we paid $900!! There's a TON of mark up in mattresses.
Our friend passed away, so when we needed to purchase DD her first big girl bed, I was blown away when the CHEAPEST Simmons mattress at Mattress Firm and the like were $650! I did some searching and there is a Simmons outlet on 35 near downtown Dallas. They sell brand new Simmons beds for a fraction of the cost. You won't get the full selection that a regular store has, but I encourage you to check it out.
We got DD's twin mattress and mattress cover (no box spring needed) for $150! It even comes with the zippered removable cover that you can wash.
We purchased a tempurpedic in January and it is the best bed we've ever purchased. We had always had pillow top mattresses before and they would start to sag... not in a way you could see, but inside the springs would just wear down, and it became so uncomfortable. Our tempurpedic is well worth the money we paid for it.
