National Don't Clean Your House Day

I'm instituting it!!!

Because I searched on google (and if its not on Google it doesn't exist, right?) and all I got were CLEANING sites!!! Like how to clean your house in 30 minutes a day (remain single and childless), cleaning "solutions", pintrist, cleaning mavens, etc.

So, darn it!!!! I'm creating it.

Rules:

- Pick a day in January. Any day. If you have inlaws coming for a visit, or an adoption inspection, probably not that day. Pick a day during the other 11 months if January is a freakishly "The cover of the book matters" month.

- If you feel you must prep in advance (clean knickers for all!), please feel free. If you feel time would be better served pouring crispix on the kitchen floor to gently acclimate yourself for this most extravagant of holidays, also indulge as you see fit.

This. Is. Your. Day.

- Day of: Do Not Clean.

- Showers, bubble baths, & kissably fresh breath at your discretion.

- if you feel you must, place dishes in dishwasher. Better, use paper plates in celebration.

- ideally, drop clothes onto floor when changing, and do not pick up

- if you catch yourself having already made bed whilst half asleep... Just gently muss it up again. Preferably by wildly passionate napping. If its too early to nap, leaping into the air a few times should do the job.

- meet friends OUT. For icecream, bevvies, caramels, what have you. For the exceptionally brazen, invite a few outing groups over to cheerfully sit amongst laundry piled couch and breakfast strewn table secure in the knowledge that everyone knows you're doing your patriotic duty, and the state of your house is no reflection on you, your intelligence, or worth as a person. Afterall... Its National Don't Clean Your House Day!!!

Any more rules you think should apply?

Would love to do this, but with three dogs and fourteen cats indoors, the five litter boxes MUST be scooped a minimum of twice a day or the house will smell like a public urinal and the floors must swept daily or there will be enough hair on them to knit a sweater.

LOL I have a do not clean day at least once a week. Love it! Wish I'd started it when I had a kid at home. As it is I have my grandchildren over and those days definitely are do not clean days.

It is so not important to have a clean house every day. Do what has to be done such as feeding the throng. Let the dishes go until the next day. Sweep the floor once a week. Well, maybe twice. The house just does not need to be clean every day.

Hmmm . . . As much as I say I would like to do this, I don't think I would be able to do it. Heck, I know I wouldn't be able to do it, even for an hour. I'm way too obsessive about being neat, clean, and organized at all times. It drives people nuts sometimes. I do relax and wear my pjs all day pretty often (when I'm not teaching), but I'm walking around cleaning up throughout the house all day, too, even when I know the house looks perfectly clean to others already. I know; it's wrong.

One more rule: make sure any others in your house know about the holiday. I just figured it out -- so *that's* what my hubby is celebrating every day!

I did this a few weeks ago when my dog died.
I was just too sad to do anything so I didn't.
For once, I didn't clean, do laundry, cook, organize, put ANYTHING away.
I was just too sad so I gave myself a pass.
I took a whole day and didn't do squat.
And you know what?
We all survived it. It was nice to "let it all go" for once!
And for once..........I took care of just me.
The next day I went back to laundry & making dinner.
The day after that I went back to organizing, grocery shopping etc.
It was nice to take a timeout when my heart was heavy.
