Nap Mats

I am brand new to gathering supplies for Mom's Day Out and wanted to know about what type of nap mat is really the best choice. The "plain jane" plastic ones look less than comfy but easy to clean. The fabric nap mats with attached blankets look really cute, but is that overboard for a little nap at school for a 2 year old?

What can I do next?

I bought my oldest son's napmat when he started MDO when he was two and we are still using it today! I anticipate we will like wise use it for my younger son! I bought a really nice Swankie Blankie Napmat that is soft and comfy and easy to wash! There are some really cute ones online that you can even personalize...same thing with backpacks and lunch boxes! I have ordered from a few places online with great luck! PM me if you want links to websites...it makes it SO easy to distinguish whose lunch box is whose! I hope that you enjoy MDO as much as I do!

My son uses one of the cute ones with the blanket and pillow attached. We have several friends who use the same brand for their 2 year olds too. They all love them. www.mynappak.com Your local rep might be able to get you a better price that the one quoted on the web site + you won't have to pay shipping.

The ones that have fabric are so much nicer to sleep on. I got one as a baby shower present and my daughter loves it. You can buy them at Salutations off of Hulen.

I had my boys mats maid from another mom on mamma source. she actually introduced me to this site. Her name is Gina Dale and her company is called Zoe Baby. I can give you her contact info... just message me. she did an awesome job. I bought the fabric b/c i am picky and she put it together. all her work is custom. we used them last year at preschool and they don't show much wear at all. I did wash them periodically. They are monogramed with their names and have a pilow and lots of padding and a blanket. There is a lip on the back at top and bottom to slide the plastic mat fits in if needed. I asked her to add this. My boys love their mats so much they ask for them in their beds and right now my son has his on the couch laying on it watching tv....I looked at LOTS of mats and wanted something really cushy since my boys are not good sleepers. They love that they have something of their own to sleep with at school.
If your school only allows the plastic ones, take a soft king sized pillow case and put it over it. It says in place and then they don't stick to it when they get hot and sweaty.

I also have a friend that bought one off ebay that wasn't bad...

You may want to check with the MDO location because many of them require that you use the "plain jane" ones. If that is what they require, then you can get them at Mardel. I would just check with the MDO that you are using and see if they have a preference on what you use.

Even if you use the cutsie ones, you still need the plastic kind for them to lie on. Both my son's MDO's used the plastics ones which are a lot cheaper. They run about $7 at Mardel's (they carry them year round). I just send my son to school with a clean blanket and he lies on the mat and they put the blanket on top.

I think the pain with the cutsie kind is you'd have to wash it all the time. With the blankets, one can be in the wash. They keep his plastic one at school. There was a lice outbreak at his school and they had us bring fresh blankets every time. They were able to disinfect the plastic mats no problem but we had to keep bringing new blankets.
