Hi Moms,

My daughter will be starting a MDO program soon and I was wondering where to purchase a nap mat in the Dallas area. Thanks for your help.

There is a kid's store in the Shops at Legacy (Plano) just down from the Mi Cocina, I forget the name. They have nap mats that roll up and have handles so the kiddo can carry it themselves. They also have a built in pillow and blanket. They have a ton of really cute fabrics.

Besides Target, Walmart you can also get them at Mardels. If you get a king size pillow case it will fit the mat perfect. That makes it easy to get on and off for throwing in the washer. I am an assistant director at a preschool and I will tell you that although the nap pads that have the blanket attached look neat and are very convenient, if the child gets a little older they grow out of it if the blanket isn't extra big. Good luck.

usually at Target or Wal-Mart. I have seen them at the Disney store (character mats). You may want to call U.S. Toy in Plano (Parker & Independence); it's a teacher's supply store open to the public - better still if you have time you should visit the store; lots of cool stuff and great educational tools at low prices.

www.mynappak.com They also have local reps who can get you better prices than online. Everyone I know with them, loves them.

First I suggest you check with the program to see if they have any special requirements for the kind of nap mat. My church allows any kind, so we originally started with a custom made one with an attached pillow and blanket. It rolls up and has a handle on it. But when we changed to a different MDO program due to my church having to cancel their program due to some landlord issues, the new MDO program required one that folded up and could be wiped down with a Clorox wipe, so I bought one from Mardel in Plano. They have them year round and they are really inexpensive.

Mardel carries them year round (as I found out in Oct) wherease the other stores may have them only in Aug/Sept. They're about $6 if I recall. The staff were very helpful too. They're not the cutesy kind, but are functional and work just fine. The school keeps the mats there and then I send him with a clean blanket.

For more cutesy ones that are the fabric "hand-made" look with attached pillow and blanket-- I got my sons at a store near the Firewheel mall in Garland: Butterflies and Bowties 972- ###-###-#### the napmat was around $50 but I thought it would last a longer time and looked very comfy. He will need it for at least 2 years for pre-k and he sometimes even gets it out to watch a video on the floor..
Also LEARNING EXPRESS toy stores had them too-- call before you go. good luck!
