Hi All,
Does anyone have any recommendation for getting red nail polish off of a white cotton duvet cover??? I learned my lesson this weekend with my nieces - do not let a 6 year old out of the bathroom with painted toes, even if you say, just don't go on the bed. I broke down and splurged on a Pottery Barn Duvet cover in May and now there is a big blotch of red nail polish on it...HELP!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I would like to thank everyone for their responses!! I am relatively new to this site and it was so nice to have so many of you respond - THANK YOU!!! I wanted to give everyone an update - I opted to try the Oxyclean - it has been soaking for a bit now and it appears to be working. I am crossing my fingers that it will come out completely! Thanks again everyone!!

Do not use nail polish remover.. I have found out that it made a huge hole in my blanket when I was younger..

Hi R.,

When I got bright red polish on my linen shorts, I took polish remover to them and of course made it worse. I then took them to the dry cleaner, asked for the manager and he actually got it out! Now that I think about it, it was bright pink. But it is worth a try! Call them and see what they can do!
Good Luck
Chris

Yes--do NOT use nail polish remover. I found that out trying to get red nail polish out of my light taupe carpeting! Can you turn the duvet cover inside out if you can't get the polish out?

I have heard of two options. One being to use a product called "Awesome", you can get it at the dollar store. Spray it on the stain, and rub....The second thing is Bull Frog Repellent. Acetone will only smear it to a pink color and break down the fabric. Hope this helps.

I do not know what a duvet cover is.
But I do know that rubbing alcohol gets it off of a lot of things.

You can buy glycerine at the drugstore, and using a rag, dab it on and then dab it off. My mother used this technique to get nailpoish off of my brother's comforter from college.

R.,

Try getting some professional nail polish remover -available at drug stores or even Wal-Mart. It is actually acetone which will take out the red nail polish. Put a cloth under the stain and blot with a cotton ball soaked in the acetone until the color is removed. Then wash in the hottest water the cover will allow. You may have to repeat the process a couple of times, but it worked for me when my daughter got nail polish on her new white skirt. Good luck. P.S. Keep the nail polish remover away from everything! This stuff will eat the finish off furniture, melt syrofoam and other plastics...but it sure works for emergencies

I work with a wellness company and we have this product
Sol-u-mel. This is kids safe and just put it directly on a rag rub it on it should take the nail polish off. This product is 100% satisfaction guarantee. That means if you are not satisfied with what it did you can get your money back. There are many uses for this product. Let me know if you interested in this.

I would not be happy. I know that Lestoil takes out ink so it might work with nail polish. The only other thing I can think of is try your dry cleaner. They might have a solution that will work. Good luck.

My friend turned me onto to Oxyclean because her daughter did the same thing. Red nail polish on her very expense white bathroom rugs. She swore by it. I have used Oxyclean for everything since, love the stuff. You can soak it in a solution for days and the stain will come out. I have used Oxyclean to get everything out. I have boys so our stains are more like dirt, grass, pens, grease etc. Good luck and go buy some. It won't hurt the duvet cover either. I have used Oxyclean on silks, wools etc. How long you soak is dependent on the material. Cotton, you could soak for a long time. Tell us how it goes!
