Nail Polish for Kids

My daughter wants nail polish for Christmas. She will be 6 in a few months. Do you girls know of a safe nail polish that actually works? Most of the kiddie ones don't really cover like the cute ones at kohl's. Yes, I know she shouldn't have her nails polished but I like to have her toenails done for dance. Thanks for all your help :)

What can I do next?

For non toxic nail polish (and you should use non-toxic because they'll be inhaling the fumes, which are terrible for us all!) you can try the hopscotch brand another poster listed or one we really like is:

Great colors and stays on

I guess I don't think it's a big deal. I have been letting my kids polish their nails since age 2. They don't have polish all the time, and I keep them away from mature colors like bright red or black. But we have a good time. Usually, my daighter wants each nail a different color, and we do orange for Halloween, etc. I even have taken my oldest a couple of times for real manicures on her birthday or for the first day of school. I don't see it as makeup as it isn't about changing how she looks - I see it more as accessorizing :)

That said, I just let them use whatever they want. All polish is pretty much the same (to my knowledge), and kids' ploish (like at Claires) is cheao and isn't as good quality. My polishes are Opi, but since they like wierd colors, we can usually find something unusual at Target. What I am careful about is the polish remover. I buy the mildest I can , and generally let the polish wear off on it's own versus removing it.

My son just comes to the salon with me and gets a pedicure.

Since the force recon guys were the ones who introduced me to pedicures in the first place (the marine corps special ops) I've never really thought twice about it.

I use regular nail polish on my 2.5 year old, but check the label to make sure it is formaldehyde and toluene free first. New OPI colors are, but only as of this year, so old ones aren't. Many quick-dry ones are too, which is especially helpful when using them on young kids.

There are "PEEL OFF" polishes that you can get so you are not using removers, see about those if you are concerned about the polish products. But honestly polish is polish.

Piggy Paint - but it takes forever to dry and only lasts a few days... not worth it in my eyes.

I'd just go with the regular stuff and put a fan on her names to blow the fumes away.

"Piggy Paint" is nail polish specifically for kids sans the chemicals.
Google search it.
Amazon and even E-Bay has it.

All kinds of colors.
My daughter had that too.

I paint my almost-4-year-old's nails as an incentive to let me trim them (she hates having her nails cut). I use the formaldehyde and toluene free polish -- SpaRitual is one brand, and there's another one I buy from Whole Foods. When we need to remove the polish, we use the "Almost Natural" (it's called something like that) nail polish remover. They all still smell, but it's not nearly as bad as the regular stuff, and much less toxic.

I get those tiny nail stickers, way easier & no worries!
they sell them everywhere.

I sometimes use the 60sec dry stuff because they cant sit still for very long.

Get her the new peel and stick polish as it doesn't have the fumes and is not a drying time factor.
