Mamas - HELP! My almost 3y/o son has started biting his fingernails AND toenails. Before he started biting his nails, I did clip his nails every two-three weeks. I do not know where he picked up this habit, or why. He is in preschool, so it's possible he picked it up there. How do I get him to stop? I thought about putting something bitter on his nails until one day when drinking lemonade he started eating the lemon without flinching.

What can I do next?

No bite is probably the best. But a little tabasco sauce would work too.

I've heard that digging the nails into a bar of soap works as a deterrent.

I was a nail biter and still am sometimes. He most likely picked it up from school, watching other adults or the kids. My mom tried the no bite thing with me, and it didn't work. I still bite them. That did nothing for me. Then my mom put jalapeno pepper juice on my fingers. That burned my mouth, but it worked for a while. Eventually i got it off with soap and water and started biting them again. I just wish you the best of luck.
