My son is 3 years old and has been potty trained for at least four months now but will not go poo in the potty. We have tried everything and nothing works. He is great at going pee pee in the potty but when it comes to poo he just hides and does it in his pants. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Dont feel bad I'm in the same boat! My son is 3 and a half and goes pee fine on the potty but still won't poop on the potty for us. My babysitter has better luck then we do, we are trying the reward method for every time he poops, bribes, and just sitting him down on the potty after supper every night and saying it's time to poop.
Good luck let me know what works for you!

I had to give me daughter Thomas trains. But what I did was the first time she got a train and then the next train she had to do it 2 times for a train, etc. Stickers did NOT work, she needed REAL motivation! :)
The other thought is keep an eye on him and when he goes to hide to do a poopy, whisk him away to the bathroom act all excited and tell him that today is the day, he is finally old enough and act all excited and announce today is the day you will be able to potty in the bathroom. Those 2 ideas worked for me. Good Luck.

I had this exact problem with my know 5 year old, ( I have 7 kids) And really I found no magic cure, he was "pee-pee" trained by 2 abd then a few months later decided he didn't want to poo on the toilet, he would make us put a diaper on him, all I can say is be patient and after each poo offer him the potty and tell him how much better it will feel, books in the bathroom also helped, within a month or so he stopped and started using the toilet for all of his buisness. Thankfully it's a phase and will pass, that's my mantra at least. GOOD-LUCK!

My daughter was the same. Some books that I have read say they don't like the water splashing up on their bottom (I don't know if he's going in the potty chair or toilet). She enjoyed if we put her potty chair in her bedroom. She liked to do #2 there alone, it probably helped her since it was quiet and she could just sit and relax. Otherwise you could just tell him to tell you when he has to go #2 and put on a diaper/pull up for a little while longer until he feels confident going in the toilet. Also there are these little floatie things that are made to go in the toilet to encourage boys to pee on them, maybe they would work the same to encourage him to poop on them.
