My Son Has Raised Bumps on His Chest. Not Red.

My five year old son has raised bumps on his chest. They've been there for two years or so. They are not red but just a raised patch. My dr. doesn't seem too concerned, thinks possibly it's a wheat allergy? But he has been tested for allergies and nothing came up. Does anyone have any ideas?

A fungus? There's a really common one (can't remember the name) that is treated with selenium sulfide (basically concentrated Head and Shoulders shampoo). Maybe ask the doctor about that possibility.

My two year old and 3 year old have had the same bumps. As many have said my doctor said it was probably a small case of eczema and not to worry about it unless it became red, irritated or infected. Sometimes moisturizer would help but I would look for ones for eczema. I hope this helps.

It sounds like, and I will spell this wrong, molescum, my boys both had it, its highly contagious and very nasty. Once we got it diagnosed I felt like we had head lice, there was a bit of embarrassment for me. We went through many procedures with the boys doctor and a dermatologist, and finally it went away. The derm did a procedure that left their chests looking like a cigarette was put out on them, very bad, it was a blistering agent, but left no scars. Also my oldest was so sick of it that he had them scrapped off which was a horrible procedure. I would think your pediatrician would recognize it right away, and maybe its something different for your child, but when I read "bumps" it was my first thought. I have heard they will go away on their own, but it takes years. Good luck to you!

My son has the same thing (he's almost 4) and has had it for several years. My doctor said it's a type of eczema. I do notice that it gets slightly better if we remember to put moisturizer on it all the time. He had eczema as a baby so I have no reason to doubt the doctor. The bumps don't seem to bother my son so we dont' worry about it. Do the bumps bother your son?

I don't know if this will help but I have psoriasis (which started out as just red bumps mostly) and eventually they figured out that I am gluten (and dairy) intolerant (not allergic) and if I avoid those things it tends to mostly go away. If not, it gets a lot worse and I have arthritis with it (psoriatric arthritis). Might not have anything to do with it, just reminded me of what I have. Good luck!!

My son had moluskum contagiousum. It is a common childhood skin issue. It lasted in my son for at least 2 years and then it went away by itself. It can look like little pimples or bumps. His spread quite a bit before it resolved. I'm sure your doctor would recognize moluskum though. Just throwing it out there. Take care.

My son gets small bumps and has since he was very tiny. He is only two, but I found out it was a form of exima and if I use Cetafil cream after he takes a bath every day, they don't seem to be as bad and sometimes aren't there! Don't know if that helps or not, but it is just a nice heavy lotion anyway, can't hurt! Good luck!
