My son is 13 months and is the lucky owner of a double crown or "double cowlick". He has two swirls right next to each other right in the top middle of his head. So far what little hair he has is in the shape of 3 mohawks. One in the middle and two on either side of his head.

So, can anyone tell me what fun Im in for when he does grow more hair?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My son has the most adorable hair. We keep it in a longer shag look and his cowlicks are not even noticable. Everyone says they love his hair!

Hey,
Yep, that is a doozy! My youngest son has a double crown and for years he couldn't comb it himself because he couldn't see exactly how to comb it so it would lay down. He had it sticking up most of the time. I finally did train him to comb it right and he is 13 and does a good job of it. He has to comb the middle straight down and the parts going off left and right. It was interesting for a long time!
Good luck with it!

If you keep it "buzzed" pretty short it won't be a problem.

My son is 5 yrs old and has had that same "double cowlick" all his life in the same place on his crown and he always has a little mowhawk. I am not sure where you live but there is a lady her name is Sharon and she works at the cool cuts for kids on denton hwy or hwy 377 I think it's watauga at that point or maybe Ft Worth but she has 3 boys and she knows how to cut my son's hair so you can hardly even notice.
Good luck let me know if I can help more.

Ok I have two boys, my oldest who is 7 has three, and we used to have to shalack with hairspray and gel and everything to keep it from sticking up in the back, however since he is really into soccer we let him shave his hair like David Beckham... I was so nervous my husband said who cares its hair it will grow back but I was nervous that it would all stick up everywhere, but really it looks great and better than before. Then my second son is 4 he has two and we do a faux hawk on him and brush the back all forward, it works really well. I will ONLY take them to the antique barber shop in Colleyville called back in time, they also have one in Watugua texas. They do really well with that kind of thing and have lots of candy to hand out to the kids too. They have been going there since thier first hair cuts when they were like 10 months old. Good luck its hard but once you find the right cut and stylist you can live with it! Baby hair is always hard cause it just wants to stick up and it is really fine and fuzzy!

I have two boys (4 and 18 months) and BOTH have MULTIPLE cowlicks...and it does not get easier as they get older! My oldest wakes up every morning with CRAZY hair! I have tried everything! Gels, mousses, goop, you name and I have tried it! I have to wet his hair down every morning and put a gel on it IMMEDIATELY if I hope at all to keep it from sticking straight up! And some days, it does anyways once it dries. I had a hair stylist tellus once to cut it short and it will lay better - SHE WAS WRONG! It was fine for a day or two and then he looked like Dennis the Menace for a month! It stuck straight up after that! His hair is quite fine and it is just difficult to manage. The key is to let it grow longer on top and it weighs down the cowlick a bit and makes it a bit more manageable. My youngest has 3 cowlicks that really do their own thing no matter what. Unfortunately, my oldest decided to give my youngest child a hair cut one day while I was in the shower and so we had to have his hair cut quite short after that. I am sure once it starts to grow out a bit, we will have the same issues again! Bless his little heart! Good luck - I thought dealing with boys hair would be less time consuming than girls! I was wrong!

Welcome to my world. My son is now 15. Not only was I lucky enough for him to have a double crown in the back of his head, but somehow he managed inherit the 2 cowlicks in the front. It will all depend on the hair style you choose for him. We have always had the tradiional little boys haircut, short over the ears and part to one side. We never really had any problems with the double crown it is the ones in the front that have always been the trouble spot. My son still prefers his hair cut short and has learn to manage the front pretty well. The best advice I can give you is just be patient and work with what you have, don't try to fight the system like my husband did by trying to insist his hair part to a particular side.

Good luck and be sure to treasure your little man as he will be grown up before you know it.

my son is 15 months old and has a full - actually fuller than usual head of hair since birth.. his hair is fun! he has many swirls / cowlicks. my sister cuts his hair, its always an experience. it goes many different directions! we always try to keep it short, its actually pretty cute! she cuts his hair with clippers and does it shorter where the cowlicks are more prominent. its usually a little longer on top and faded on the bottom

My son is four years old, and he has a double crown also. It sounds like Gena's son's haircut is similar to my son's. We get his haircut the same way every time. We have tried something different once, and it really was awful.

We get the top of his head shaved/cut at a #4, and the back of his head, all the way up PAST the crowns done at a #3. We then take a small amout of hairgel and spike the little bit up on top with a comb, and it is just adorable! The hairstylist should know what you are talking about.

I will tell you, that we did not SETTLE with this haircut. It really is cute and the way it looks best. It makes him look nicely groomed, and well kept up. Another positive side to this do, is that you can let it go longer without a trim-up, and it really does still look good until the next haircut trip.

Good luck and don't feel discouraged! I felt the same way when I realized this issue, and it honestly has not bothered me since!

Don't fight it, it's a losing battle. Being a curly head myself I know it's not worth it. My son has tons of cowlicks, I gave up, got him a haircut to reshape the sides once it filled in and we go with the curls. I usually spray it in the morning and just ruffle it up till it looks "artfully" arranged. Most people love it and are so thrilled to see the curls that he almost always gets compliments. (We also use the Johnson's curly hair shampoo, it helps with the frizzies.) I personally like it. I figure once he gets older and decides HE doesn't like it he can do what he wants to it.

HaHa! I love it! My son has 3 and has HATED then since he was a toddler! He's also a redhead and hated that too! He has cut them himself a few times but now realizes the shorter you cut the more it sticks out! I guess you just need to hope this longer "skater hair" stays popular because that's what my son has now(he's 12) and it looks really cute!Or spikey looks good too, start investing in gel now! LOL!

My son's hair is just like that. Two whorls on the crown then a cowlick in the front. After just letting it stick up in a mowhawk for some time I found that the classic flattop works pretty well to just go with the spiking and make the best of what happens naturally. Anyway as the hair grows out I just brush it forward from the crown and it lays kinda flat. He's 18 months now and his hair is starting to thicken up and the texture is changing and it seems to lay forward better on it's own. Everyone loves his crazy hair, it just is a part of who he is.

My son also has two crowns, according to his hairdresser it is a sign of high intelligence in China! We always just leave it a little longer around that area and it lies down fine. My son had the crazy mohawk too for awhile. Enjoy!
