My Last on These Birth Control Pills......

This is probably the most stupid question. My bf is coming into town Dec 23rd. After checking my calendar I will be on the Green Pills still on the 23rd starting White ones again on the 24th. Am I still protected on the days I am on the Green Pills? I would guess not since they are not active pills. I am on the green pills for this month right now can I delay taking the next pack to make sure I am protected on the 23rd? How long before having unprotected sex should I start taking them before being completely protected? Does that make sense?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I am doing great at remembering to take my pill thanks to my cell phone. It lets me set an alarm and pick which days I am to have it turn on. So taking my pills on time is definately NOT a problem. :o) TY for yalls concern though.

Dear E., As long as you are taking your pill everyday (doesn't matter which color) you're safe. The 7 non active pills are there so you will have your period, but you are protected from day 1 till day 28.
Do not delay taking the next pack (!!!!) If you do this, the first 7 days of your new pack are not safe and you have to use a condom.

Good luck, I.

Hi E.,

The green pills are for when you are one your period and the white pills start back the birth control. As long as you stick with the directions and don't miss too many pills you should be fine. But I always say the pill isn't 100% effective so if you are too worried about, use additional birth control.

Take Care,
Jenn

As long as you take them every day, you're protected. The green ones are for when you'll have a period. You can skip the green ones and go straight into the next pack and you'll skip the period. You may get a little bloated though. I wouldn't do it two months in a row. I've heard that you need to be on the pill continually for 2 or 3 months before having unprotected sex. Also, it may take that long to be sure this is the right pill for you, so if you have to switch pills you have to re-start the 2 or 3 months waiting time.

And, just so you know - most people don't - you don't HAVE to have a period unless you are ovulating. Since you're on the pill, you're not ovulating and the blank pills just make you have a period so that women (back when birth control was first introduced) would still think it was "normal." I take a low does pill that doesn't cycle (has the same amount of hormone in each pill) and I take them back-to-back and don't have periods at all. They've done this for decades in Europe. I DON'T think you can do this with your cycling pills so you should really check with your OB on any questions you might have concerning this.

As far as I can remember as long as you keep taking your pills every day you are continually protected. You just get your period during the non-active pills (I guess yours are green). If you want to not have your period while your bf is there because you are on the green ones just keep taking the white ones (skipping the green ones) & you will not have your period for that month. I did that for my honeymoon & it worked out great (just don't do it very often). The main is to be consistent & take them every day. Also if you are on antibiotics for any reason sometimes they will decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Just check with your doctor before taking an additional medications. Good luck!

Birth control pills are made from a combination of hormones that keep your body from maturing an egg and ovulating. As long as you take every active pill in the pack, you will not ovulate and you have no chance of becoming pregnant.

I would highly suggest you purchase a book call "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It will give you a better understanding of your body and what it actually does. It will also train you how to not have to use BC pills.

Take care of yourself and remember that BC does not protect against other things. I know condoms aren't fun, but in this day and age, safe is better than sorry!

I would suggest you take your question to the pharmacy that dispensed the pill OR call the doctor's office that prescribed these for you. You have had a couple of consistent responses from the gals online here. Don't skip (forget to take) a pill. Just double check with the medical professionals. They know about this. Good Luck.
